Wow, that Quest number is low. I also think Chrysler sells many to rental places. I don't ever recall seeing any Honda or Toyota vans for rent.

When company rents at SFO it is either a Sienna or Town and Country rental van...

Never heard a bad thing and most put about 3k miles over 2 weeks doing the Western National Park loop.

I usually see Chrysler and Toyota vans equally at rental firms. Used to see some Nissans, can't remember seeing a Honda.

I bet Honda price point and not willing makes it not inducive for rental fleets. Tons of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep as rentals here.

Was surprised at the low trade offered at 10% of cost on sister in laws 10 year old Odyssey... 5k on a 50k purchase.

Now a Friend just sold his 10 year old Corolla CE bought new... paid $13,800 out the door and sold it for $2500....

Rover is the most upside down I've found... 90k Rover in excellent condition for all factory service at 4K... not even a 5% residual and it is the finest automobile I have ever driven... which surprised the heck out of me.

Interesting, maybe the Chryslers are left behind more often. :D

My Odyssey even at it's age is usually easy to work on, the metal fasteners are high quality. They rarely break. My Jeep of similar age, oy.

Are you saying Rovers go for cheap? We don't see many of them around here.

The Rover was a gift...

It was bought new new by my brother and well cared for... rust free and no damage anywhere.

He loved that car but his wife just about hated it... she was tired of 4k spent on it annually...

The most recent was a rock hit the windshield and the windshield was just under 2k

Last year they were towing the stock trailer and the air-suspension went out... that was expensive.

They really needed a ranch truck built for towing the stock trailer, dump trailer, etc... the wife laid down the law and said not another penny... go buy a Super Duty Diesel with a long warranty.

I asked what they were offered in trade for the Rover and it was 4k... they had time as the Super Duty was a factory order and when it came in he called and said are you interested in the Rover? I said for 4k... yes... he said they talked about it and wanted to give it to me and appreciated all my help at the ranch plus I gave my nephew the F150 not that long ago... it was a super clean 1996 4wd with 5spd.

Never a Rover fan and never would have bought one... driving it gave me some insight as to why people buy them...

It's heavy and that is why he got a tax credit for buying it... it handles very well, the air suspension makes a difference... the OEM headlights provide great illumination and seating position great visibility... never been one for sound systems but the OEM is very good... lots of room, Blue Tooth, Nav etc in a 2006 Model. It is extremely off road capable... the 2006 is from when BMW owned Rover...

Now here is what I didn't expect... co-workers at the Hospital and friends all commented on what a nice car and some didn't believe me when I said it was mine plus a lot of similar comments... I guess there are plenty of people that make assumptions on what you drive... one day an old Plymouth... most days the Corolla and then I show up with the Rover.

Older, well maintained and clean gets my top marks as far as Judging by the car a person drives.

So a used Rover takes a huge hit on resale... especially compared to a used Honda or Toyota... not sure about the Odyssey... have to see how they do on that... sister in law bought a new Subaru Touring Outback so the Odyssey is going away.

I've seen a fair number of Rovers at Dog Shows and Horse Events...

If it was me , a 4 door Tacoma with a topper and rubber floor mat and sliding windows would do the trick . Water bowl , food bowl and they have their own space .

216 Best Resale Value Awards: Minivan/Van - Kelley Blue Book

The Sienna was #1 in 2016 and 2015, Odyssey was #2 and #3. But they're really close. Edmunds says five year depreciation on an Odyssey is $21,464 versus $22,080 for a similarly-priced Sienna. Negotiating the new or used buy would tip it. We found used Siennas had insane asking prices.

When they bought the Odyssey all the Bay Area Honda Dealers had 2 to 3k Dealer "Market Price" stickers... no budge.

My brother called a Dealers up to 150 miles away and found a Honda Dealer in Bakersfield with a loaded fully optioned Odyssey they really wanted to sell.

We dealt directly with the owner and he said Honda required Dealers to have all models and trim levels and he just was not able to sell a 50k Honda in farm country... got a great deal of several thousands under MSRP and when all said and done almost 7k less than the local SF Bay Area Dealers...

Just did the KBB and $4200 trade in price so less than 10% of cost.

As an update... she really didn't want the Honda to begin with... had Volvo Wagons but not enough room... bought the Odyssey and liked it a lot... over the summer the A/C stopped working and it was an expensive Dealer fix... that was enough to start the wheels turning and Subaru does a ton of advertising here to women... safe, secure, green, etc... so the Outback it is with all the extra service and warranty one could buy.

You are forgetting that I'm in Texas and these are large dogs with heavy coats. AC for them at 60 degrees in the back is a must have. Up front it's at 75, but for the dogs, the colder the better.

T&C and Grand Caravan are badge engineering. Pacifica is the new model, and quite handsome. I believe all three have the same drive train: 4.0L V6 with 6 speed automatic.

So I guess were probably going to see the phase out of the T&C if the Pacifica sells well in the next few years?

They don't buy the Toy or Honda as they cost more probably and would not make financial sense when they sell all during a warranty period and you can have a trouble free Kia or Chrysler in the same period.

I just bought a 2012 Sienna Limited AWD for 26K. My wife and I like it better than the 03 Odyssey it replaced. The Honda was a great van and very reliable. It suffered from road noise and age. Whichever you buy, I would recommend getting used with less than 50k miles. It's broken in and you save a ton over new.

In 2014 I purchased a new Odyssey for 25K. Why are people paying so much? F/R ac, cruise/power everything. No video system or nav. You have to use the door handles but has backup camera, bluetooth etc. Why such high prices. Oh yeah, steel wheels and hubcaps...

Someone mentioned the trade in on a 10 y/o Odyssey being low. For the fun of it I ran the trade-in on the top of the line 06 T&C with 125k on it. In excellent condition it was listed at 3k tops with an average of 2.5k. To give the T&C some help I picked a lower level EX (only one lower is LX) with the same year and mileage. It's trade-in is listed at 5k tops with the average at 4.2k. No dealer wants to give much for a 10 year old van.

Pretty much except when you check what a base model 10 year old Corolla brings the retained percentage of value is very high in the SF Bay Area...

That seems to be the case for Accords and Civics too, I bet Camry's are similar. The cars were reasonably priced to begin with and then hold some value. 4 to 6k seems to be what Hondas and Toyotas are worth (trade-in) at 10 years old with 130k, doesn't seem to matter a bunch which model. BTW, in my area the Accord and Civic max at 4.5k, similar Corolla is 3.5 with Camry at 4k. Those of course may or may not be real world numbers just trade-in estimates for my zipcode. I would enjoy driving any of them, the quality shows. My daughter's 99 Accord with 190k is still a pleasure to drive.

Almost without exception the depreciation curve is steep for high end models...

Many that cannot afford new are ill equip to handle repairs when these vehicles age.

I've seen some top of the line BMW's scrapped simply because it cost too much to smog... here it is 1976 and newer and getting often California specific emission parts for a high end import that is 40 years old can be prohibitively expensive.

The reason I say almost... my boss bought a brand new Ford GT for 160k in 2006... totally enjoyed the car and put 4,500 miles on it... decided to sell and the first person bought it for 210K

Yep, lots of good deals out there if you have the time and know how to fix small annoying issues. It amazes me how cheap Audis and Volvos are after 10 years. A nice AWD vehicle for cheap money.
