Do you want to go back to the time when taking guns away meant less violence? Then you will have barbers that are also your dentist too.

Lol, we have no carry ordances in towns and cities throughout the US now, and last time I checked there weren't too many barber\dentist shops.

Please, try to stay somewhat credible.

History is irrelevant to those who don't learn from history, and more frequently, to those who don't know history. To the rest of the population, history is always relevant.

See, whenever we look at history it's not going to be identical to our current sitution. But as educated people we can learn from the experiences of those who went before in similar situations.

You are arguing for the right to carry weapons in our cities and towns.

This same right was argued for, and lost, back in 1800 America when we quickly learned that if everyone was armed then our peace officers were just more armed men.

I know that fact does not sit well with you but the fact is anyone who is even slightly familiar with the early American west know that it was the prohibition on carrying guns inside our cities and towns that ended the lawlessness and brought order and civilized society to these towns.

Therefore it is would non too wise to return to the environment that first facilitated this lawlessness. Not a difficult concept.

You are quoting history but ignoring the modern day. Taking guns away in our cities has been tried and has done nothing to deter gun violence. As a matter of fact, removing guns from the law abiding populace within our cities has increased violence including that with guns. This is indisputable fact. Newsflash, the bad guys don't turn their guns in. That, in fact, is not a difficult concept.

Naa. I did enough chemicals when I was younger. ;)

LOL, I was talking to the other Wayne.
But now that you brought that up, I was wondering if you had been both in the old west and the a modern city or used both alcohol and crack LOL

Whatever. I'm done. Mama told me never argue with logic like yours. Sane people might not be able to tell the difference.

No, no one said there won't be violence in a city or town. Just controllable violence. We know there will be violence. That's why we have peace officers to deal with the individuals who are not capable of obeying our laws.

But to give everyone a gun makes a police officer just another man with a gun.

Most people are brave enough to walk around in open society without a gun to protect themselves. Some of us unfortunately are not. But I feel as those people come to understand that giving everyone guns will lead to worse anarchy than the spotted violence our cities currently maintain, they too will somehow find within themselves the courage to move through society without a gun to protect themselves.

What I do find ironic however is that most people who feel the need to carry a handgun in our towns and cities often are fans of the old west, yet never seem to comprehend the simple historical fact that it was the prohibitions on carrying guns in our wild west towns and cities that contained the violence and permitted peace officers to do their jobs. Most gun carry advocates love Wyatt Earp but they don't apparently seem to agree with Mr Earp's views on the right to carry guns in civilized society.

This is not of course my opinion but a historical fact, and anyone who's actually studied American history know's that. Whether or not you "agree" with history is your problem, however the fact is lawless societies are the ones that require it's citizens to constantly arm themselves. Decent, civilized societies (which includes unfortunately some criminal activity) do not.

And by the way, if you can't learn from US history, perhaps a drive up to Canada, or a trip to Europe may enlighten you more as to how civilized people are able to live and work in cities and towns without the need for a firearm to protect them.

And before you go painting me as a pacifist or anti gun person, I happen to endorse gun ownership and believe it is a protected constitutional right. I enjoy firearms but I also find it pathetic for individuals to be so frightened of walking around in general society that they feel they need a handgun to protect themselves.

I don't think you're a pacifist or an anti-gun person, but I disagree with you.
As a child I was walking home with my unarmed mother, and two men tried to mug her. She said she had no money. They didn't believe her. She actually had to open her purse and let one of them look through it to prove she had no money so they didn't hurt her. If they thought for an instant that she had a weapon, they would have picked someone else to mess with.

When I was a teenager, I lived with my grandparents over the summers. One summer my grandfather went to Texas for his brother's funeral. We didn't have enough money for all of us to go, so me and grandma stayed home. One late night we were sitting on the front porch. There was a very loud party going on at the end of the street and someone called the police. After the police had left the people throwing the party thought it was my grandmother that called the police and decided they would punish her with a baseball bat. One man was cussing and yelling while walking towards the front porch with the bat. I ran in and pulled grandpa's .38S&W out of his desk drawer and walked back out on the porch. After cocking it and pointing at him, his friend quickly came to the conclusion I knew how and was ready to use it, and they both turned around. Whether he was really going to use the bat or just try to scare my grandmother we will never know. There was one thing that I was sure of. I was ready to pull the trigger. I'm glad it never came to that but I do think pulling that 38 out stopped whatever he was going to do. Whatever anyone says about gun laws; I will always support the right of civilians to legally carry guns.

I'm not going to bore you with another instance where I pulled out a gun to thwart a possible attack but I will say this- I am trained to disarm assailants of weapons because I've practiced martial arts for over 20 years; however, physical altercations can cause injury. If an attacker is injured, he can sue the person he was attacking thanks to our flawed legal system. If the opportunity should ever arise again to thwart off an attacker by 'brandishing' rather than subdue him and cause injury and risk getting sued I will do so.

Another thing. I'm not a police officer. Never was. I don't get paid to keep the peace. I don't get paid to protect anyone. I will however do so, if necessary. Police officers are not just "another man with a gun." They get paid to serve and protect, and are underpaid in my opinion. They risk their lives every day, and I value their service. I have many friends that are police officers. I appreciate the sacrifices they make. Problem is they can't be everywhere, there aren't enough of them, and we have a right to protect ourselves. I agree that it is unfortunate for someone to feel unsafe without a gun. I just feel safer with a gun. I had jury duty last year and hated not being able to carry those four days. You just never know what could happen.

OOps, I thought that after I typed it. Sometimes people refer to me as Wayne because of my business. :)

Umm, no, I was never in the old west.

History is irrelevant in this case. There were no Bloods and Crypts back then. There were no crackheads and heroin junkies.

Thank you for confirming that those to whom history is irrelevant are also those who don't know history. Because based on your above statement, you apparently know little of early American history, particularly when pertaining to the west.

Of course there were gangs like the Bloods and Crypts back then. LOTS of them.

Like the Youngers, the Daltons, The Cowboy's, The High 5's, The Fleagle Gang, the Farrington Brothers Gang, The Daly Gang, the Dodge City Gang, The Cookson Hill Gang, The Espinoza Gang, The Burrow's gang, and many, many more.

The west was full of "gangs" who fought amongst themselves, for territories, committed all sorts of crimes and wreaked havoc on the local communities.

And as for no "crackheads or heroin junkies", what are you kidding me?

Opiates and Heroin was in widespread use throughout the west, particularly with members of gangs, as was widespread alcohol abuse. In fact when Curly" Bill Brocious shot town Marshal Fred White in the groin, killing him, he was reportedly intoxicated, possibly on opiates and booze. In fact one of the biggest problems in mining towns was the prevelance of opiates and alcohol which led to all sorts of crime, destruction of property and loss of life.

You know, you might want to spend some time actually reading about our own history before expounding on it further.

Or they might have taken it from her and shot you both in the head.

I find it ironic that you'd post a story where your mother was mugged and did not have a weapon and went unharmed.

It's common knowledge that many shootings occur with the victim's own firearm. Why you'd pick that story to defend your point I'm not sure, but I'm sure glad you did.

About this wild west stuff. Things have changed. People that "legally" carry guns are not the type to run around like cowboys with red bandanas, and shoot up the town. They are law abiding citizens that want to protect themselves. Why deny them of being able to protect themselves? Is there another agenda? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but one has to wonder.
