Are 'White' lawn tractors the same as Cub Cadet?

They are both owned by the same parent company MTD.

Not even close. Cub and White are indeed owned by MTD but built to radically differant standards.

The dealer up here says the White are built tougher than the Cub Cadet, and the John Deere.?

The more educated I get about tractors the more confused I get. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'm going back to each dealer (Craftsman, JD, White) one more time and really look each one over. I think overall I'll be happy with either. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif My seeded yard is now over 6 inches high with grass. Time to start mowing.

I think your dealer is just trying to make a sale. Cub Cadet is the premier line. They are very tough. About once a month I use a 2166 to mow some very tall grass. It powers through that grass like nothing.

I would suggest finding a new dealer. The one you spoke to is a flat out liar. Strong words? Maybe, but if you take about 10 minutes to compare similar models you'll see the differance with your own eyes.

A quick check of CONSUMER GUIDE lists a Cub Cadet 2654 54" Riding mower and a White 2550 54" Riding mower as virtually identical units. The CC's MSRP was $99.00 more ($3498 vs. $3399). I believe CC offers a broader range of products, including some CUTs, to promote a robust line of equipment. However, if you compare apples to apples, I believe you will find minor differences in comparable tractors. Both brands have been bought up and no longer represent their original brand holders. It's all about marketing now. Based on the CONSUMER GUIDE information and the size you ulimately choose, you will not go wrong purchasing either one.

Let's narrow this down a bit before we generate any heat.

What are we talking about here? Lawn tractor or Garden tractor?

What size engine do you want?

Do you prefer B&S or Kohler?

What size deck?

Let's get these questions answered (which we should have asked first) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Then we can get down to business. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I need a lawn tractor strictly for mowing grass. (less than one acre). I finally found a dealer who sells Cub Cadet and for not much increase in price I can get the LT 1022 instead of the Craftsman and a little cheaper than the JD L118. Above posts have scared me away from the White.

I'm going with the LT 1022 Cub Cadet. The dealer will give it to me for $2,800 w/mulch (approx. $2,000.00 USD). Only problem is the dealer is 1.5 hours North of where I live, but you guys have sold me on them and the spec. sheet looks good. Thanks for your input, it is appreciated!

Your making the right call. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The price is right in line also. U.S. retail is $1999. Good luck with your new machine.

Come on Guys, Jetman356 did not get the fair and unbiased advice he was seeking here at TBN. Some pretty radical statements have turned him off to White garden tractors. In fact, at the size tractor he is looking for, the White is a very competitive unit.

Jetman356, my advice would be to research the White, JD, Craftsman and Cub Cadet, look for the features you like and then buy from the best servicing dealer. IMO you will be satisfied with any of these reputable tractors.

I believe if you read post #457148 you will see that I asked the appropriate questions. He has bought a quality machine that suits his needs. What's the problem?

Slam,

Why do you think Jetman356 made the following statement..."Above posts have scared me away from the White"?

Personally, I have a problem with "scaring people". I've just started contributing to the TBN forums. I find them very interesting, and for most part, find contributors to be fair, unbiased and generally helpful. If any of my statements did not meet the "fair, unbiased and generally helpful" criteria, I will respectfully refrain from any further comments.

When someone asks a question they deserve an answer. An honest opinion. That's what he got, my honest opinion. He also got facts. Just because some consumer report magazine said White and Cub were identical (or whatever you said...) does not make it so. I believe you will find that here at TBN most will agree with that opinion. If those of us that are knowledgeable about the industry (20+ years myself, retail and wholesale) do not give the most accurate and honest advice we can then we are doing a great disservice to TBN and to whoevers asking. Capish'?

I wasn't under the impression that White are awful tractors, rather I wasn't interested in dealing(scared away) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif with the Dealer that said they were superior to Cub Cadet. He wasn't being honest with me. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Hard tyo explain yourself properly on these computers.
