white,L.Tractor hard start first time

My white lawn tractor wont start the first time unless I put gas in the carb,Then it will start up fast,and then start later when I shut it off.And if i go to start it 1 or 2 hours later it will start with out putting gas in the carb.If I wait too long about 8 hours it wont start unless I put gas in the carb. And then run great.Is their an augzillary pump or something.It dose have a fule pump on the side of the left side of the engine (Sitting on the tractor).

What type of engine? Check fuel pump diaphram for a pin hole. Auto choke? not working? Definately sounds like a choke problem. May need an adjustment.

Allow me to hijack / resurrect this thread.

I've got a White LT1850 mower that has similar symptoms. Won't start when cold. 20 HP Tecumseh engine, manual choke. It's been this way since new.

Would the best place to start be tearing into the fuel pump?
