Every car/truck automatic transmission produces iron filings over time. (That's how shady shops sell you a rebuilt). That's why they put the magnets in the pan. GM even came out with a mod for several transmissions to replace 1 small with 2 larger ones, 1 in the pan and 1 on the filter.
