I recently purchased a new 34 hp Kioti CK35 HST tractor and a Rhino 160 rotary cutter. I have been researching box blades. I am wondering if it would be able to utilize a 72" Woods medium duty BSM72 box blade. It weighs 680 lbs but is rated for use by a 40-60 hp tractor. Or should I go with their 65" standard duty BSS65 (528 lbs) or 72" BSS72 (551 lbs) box blades which are rated for tractors "up to 45 hp" on the Woods website. I will be grading and maintaining an existing four hundred foot gravel driveway plus leveling and restoring about 5-6 acres of lawn and pasture. The soil is southwest Virginia clay. I like to have good quality tools and and implements. The medium duty Woods box blade is more substantial, but I don't want to overburden and possibly damage the tractor. I thought maybe in 4 wheel drive it might be okay to use the heavier box blade. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks

Mike

I run a 1100 lb Gannon on my NH TC35D and it handles the weight just fine. Before the Gannon I used a medium duty Bush Hog BB which worked too, but I wanted more weight. My suggestion is to buy the heaviest one you can afford. The Woods at 680 lbs will work fine.

A perfect match for your tractor is the BLR55 of these ROBBs Just the right width, heavy and you can get the rippers in the ground from your seat, no hydraulics needed, and no stopping and putting each ripper down by hand.

You mentioned a driveway, you may want to consider one of these type implements for that chore, they work very well.

RDrancher, thanks for the input. I'm impressed you could use that 1100 pound Gannon with your NH T35D. I've never owned a tractor before so I'm pretty ignorant of what 34hp can and cannot do. MtnViewRanch, can a ROBB perform all the same tasks as a standard BB? It seems they cost more. Are the advantages mainly in the convenience of how they can be operated? I'll try and read up on them tonight. I like the idea of a grading scraper but have already pushed the limit with the better half getting the CK35, rotary cutter, and now a box blade (or possibly a ROBB).

Other than back filling up tight next to a wall, they can do everything a box blade does. ROBBs are what used to be used on industrial tractors for the most part up until the hydraulic

actuated rippers became available, and then the commercial guys went to the hydraulic actuated rippers as they got new tractors with rear remotes to control top & tilt sets as well as the rippers.

Interesting. I think I'll have to limit my cost and stay with a quality standard box blade. I couldn't find a price on the A&E Eagleline ROBB you recommended on line. Any ballpark idea what they might go for?

Dirt Dog is another manufacturer. I honestly do not know what the current costs would be, I would guess between $1500-$2000. I have no idea how that compares to a std type box blade of that size that weighs around 700lbs.

If there are no A&E dealers around you, I am pretty sure that they will sell directly to you.

Good luck.

I have the same tractor as you, and I would say the 680# 72" medium duty box blade would be fine. The tractor has a lot of power and unless you were really pushing it, I think you would have no trouble. You would know it was back there, but it would handle it. Don't go light duty, I have a 84" rear blade form TSC that has bent back edges from snow plowing and light grading. It was 220# abt and the CK doesn't even notice it.

You need one of these, you won't be bending anything on it.

I have a CT 225 if it's the same tractor as yours with less horsepower and I run a 6 ft tarter box blade. I believe it weighs in the 600 pound plus range. Made in USA and was on sale at TSC for a very reasonable price I have been very happy with it. I have had one instance when I had all 6 rippers down and hard soil when it stoped the tractor. With r4 tires I believe a 66 inch would have been perfect anything less would be too small with r4 s. The 72 sticks passed a little bit more than I prefer for working in close quarters but is nice for working in the wide open.
