I 'm 2 years away from paying off tractor . When I do, I would like to use the monthly income that will keep coming ( can 't reduce my retirement system check, only increase it ) to buy a UTV . I would like to compromise between speed ( for grins and giggles ) and light hauling power and tool transport ( for SWMBO ) if there is such a thing . Also would like it to look like a man toy .

What do ya 'll think ?

Yamaha Rhino first choice,Kawaski Teryx second. My Rhino(450) is good on fuel can haul 1200lbs.,carry(rated) 400 lbs. and will go anywhere you point it.
Mine has 2700 trouble free miles,is sporty enough to have some fun..I use it every day.
A lot of the S/S have gotten so big that you might as well buy a jeep or samari.
Our Teryx has been good but uses a lot more fuel...it is a 750 twin.My brother in law just bought the new John Deere.....three cylinder China motor.Sounds like an out board motor.I don't care for the size(too big) or looks, and it tough on fuel.He had to widen any trails he had..plus it was $13,000.yikes.I like Kubota tractors but would never buy their s/s too big slow and not off road worthy.I have friends that bought them..good thing they both own tractors...for-ever pulling them out.

nybirdman, ya got any idea what the Yamaha Rhino 's top speed is ? I can 't seem to find that info .

The 450's top speed is about 34mph,,,the 660/700 Rhinos about 36mph.Fast enough for me....on ATV tires. The are ways to make them go faster..but I am not interested.

I agree with the rhino and teryx. I have a teryx. The polaris is also a good all around machine. Bit more slant toward the utility. Polaris will have smoother ride than rhino or teryx which may be a plus. Polaris will have the largest box of those 3 and will have bench front seat for carrying the extra person. My next machine will probably be a Polaris. Like the extra person capacity and larger box.

Honda Big Red is just a too slow for me and kind of ugly.
Kubota and Kaw Mule are mostly utility. Bench seat of the mule can only carry 2 comfortably. Kubota diesel feels way too under powered compared to the gas engines, IMHO.

I just recently traded my Sportsman off for a 500 EFI Ranger. For 2011, Polaris put the 500 EFI on the mid size frame and then they offer the 800 EFI on the large frame. The mid size frame which is a carb 400 and fuel injected 500 is 56" wide and will fit in the bed of a truck. I tried it and it does go between the wheel wells on my truck.

The book says it has a top speed of 43 mph but I briefly touched 50 with it the other day and seemed to still be picking up speed. I don't now how accurate the speedo is though. It was plenty fast for me though.

I have not hauled anything with it but it comes with a standard 2" receiver and claims to be able to pull 1200lbs. The box will support 500lbs which seems like plenty.

Just to give you an idea on price, the 500's are listed at $9100 on the Polaris website. I think the 800 is listed ar $11,300. I can tell you though if you look around and find the right dealer, you can do a lot better than that.

Here is a pic of the dogs new toy.

i second the rhino it's a good all around get you anyplace utv.i dropped a epi mudders clutch kit. in mine top speed is around 38mph .you can do a machined sheave to get more speed but 38 mph is good enough for me.i have the 700 rhino the 450 is geared lower so it will do anything the old 660's would do .
