Hi, I want to buy tire chains for the rear loaded R4 tires of my L3830. I intend to use the chains for snow removal but mainly for field work in mud and frozen hearth/ice. I cannot decide between the ladder with 4 link spacing and the type that has the cross chains connected in the middle ie he type that is called duo grip at tirechains.com or tru grip at tirechainsrequired.com. Do these chains chew the tires besides the pavement? Any recommendations and experience with these types of chains?

I have the double o-ring chains on mine and they work fine. I had the ladder with 4 link spacing on my 8n and they would work in between the bars and not do a whole lot of good.

Do you have R4 or R1? I could not find the double link for my R4 size 17.5Lx24.

I have R-4's and run the 4 link ladder type chains front and rear. They work good.

I made a mistake. I have r-1 tires which is why the 4 link ladder chains would work down in the lugs.

I just received today a set from tirechains.com of duogrip v-bars for my L4240 that has R4 shoes.

Yes. They work fine for R-4's but would fall between the lugs on R-1's.

FYI - folks that have duo-grip or tru-grip type chains report a VERY rough ride on paved surfaces. If your travels include pavement, you may be better off with 2-link chains (cross-member every two links).

I hav the 2 link ladder chains on R4's which have been good so far. Much better traction off road and in the woods, but not so aggressive that they adversely affect my driveway, which is paved.

Yes +1 on the dou grip. I bought a set for my B, and they ride very rough on pavement, but do have great traction in my field, or on my woods trails. If I do it again, and I may, I'll go with the 2 link ladders.
