Which oil is king?

Ok oil experts here is the question. Whats the best oil for my B2910? I have used kubota oil for years. I have never had any problems but cant find any specks on it. I am thinking of changing to Delvac or Delo ---- Schafers looks promising also but availability is a problem. I think delvac I is probably the best but I dont think I need to go with a synthetic. (or should I?) I have had my new tractor for 2 months and just did the 50 hour super udt change and used kubota oil in the engine. (does anyone know whos oil is in kubotas jugs?) The more I read on the bob the oilguys website the more confused I get. I now know oil isnt all the same but very different in properties. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif <font color="red"> </font> I live in central PA and use my tractor just as much in the winter as I do in the summer. I'm certainly no expert and I sure as heck don't know which oil is best.

I use Rotella 15w-40. The reason is, 90% of the truckers (in this area) use it. They put a lot more hours on those big rigs than I do on my tractor.

As good a reason as any, I reckon. I used Delo 400 15W-40 because that's what my brothers used in their 18-wheelers, both in Alaska and in Texas, and that's what a real farmer neighbor used in his big tractors, and because it was readily available lots of places. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

They (and several others) are good oils as long as you read the ratings on the container and they are rated for the service recommended by the engine manufacturer.

I live in central PA as well. I am using Amsoil diesel synthetic oil.

Well, I had just about been convinced I was going to run Rotella in my tractor and motorcycle (went and bought 2 gallons) until the recent rumor it would no longer be available from Wally World /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. It's common availability and low price were deciding factors. If this is true then I will stay with the KING OF OILS--MOBIL 1 or it's diesel equivelent Delvac. I have done a lot of oil research recent and in the past and have come to the conclusion that synthetics provide levels of protection that most engines will never need. I was attempting to "standardize" my oil inventory, Mobil 1 in the cars and Rotella syn in the Kubota, bikes and small engine equipment. Previously I had used Mobil 1 in everything but different grades, 5-30 for the cars, 15w-50 for the bike and Kubota and 10w-40/10w30 for the air compressor and small engines, now I am in a quandry.
In addition to Wally World not carying Rotella in the future---true or not?--is there a dark side to Rotella?
What was wrong with me anyway to ever abandon Mobil 1 /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, for 30 plus years there has been Mobil 1 and then everything else. With the exception of aircraft I have owned (and that is because Mobil 1 is not intended for use with Leaded fuels) I have run it in everything from ski boats to dune buggies. True, 97% of the time el cheapo oil is just as good but for those who have been known to explore the edge of the envelope, there is only one choice that has been commonly available and not all that expensive (often sales and rebates), Mobil 1 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. People think I baby my stuff, that would be incorrect, I am h--l on wheels, drive the sucker like you stole it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

I also use Amsoil--besides my tractor, I use it in my RV (extreme duty formula for the motor and the standard in the generator).

i've seen personaly 780,000 miles between several different vehicles and can say there all good products. I had trouble with rotella and oil consumption. Delo 400 and delvac 1300 is excellant products. delvac 1 is a premium product i've begun using over last 3 years excellant on it as well. there's a new product castrol ~elexion 5w-30 that's making a buzz too might be worth finding?

I agree with Bill. We've used Rotella for decades and never a problem.

I agree with cowboydoc and Bill. Rotella has been around a long time and will be around a long time, probably long after the other brands have come and gone.

I guess I don’t understand… why don’t you just continue to use Kubota? Why the change of heart all of a sudden?

Correct me if I’m wrong… isn’t “bobstheoilguy” a Schafer oil dealer… somehow I found very biased opinions on that site… everything is skewed in “Schafers” favor… the same as “Amsoil” dealer sites… everything favors themselves… /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I don’t think you can ever go wrong with any local “brand name” diesel engine oil… you mostly buy on price and the brand name’s reputation… you’re dealing in “consumables”… throwaway stuff after XXX amount of hours of usage… Why would you want to spend 2 – 3 – 4 times or more for something you’re gonna “throw away” anyways…/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
