New to tractor life. Have property. Used to be plowed. Seeded with Kentucky 31 fescue and grown for years as wild

Lumpy bumpy flat land in Ohio. I purchased and would like to mow. Do I want a brushog? Finish mower? Flail? honestly, I don稚 know the difference, but I don稚 have anything but uneven bumpy ground. No rocks logs or anything like that.

Suggestions for a mower?

How do you want it to look and how often do you feel like mowing it? How do you value your time when it comes to cutting grass?

Profile says 1-10 Acres - and sounds overgrown and rough - so suggest a brush hog

agree. 72" RC should do fine. it will also be able to be used for mowing when it's no so rough.

3-4 acres. Could mow about every 2 weeks. Leaning!

What's an RC Rotary Cutter?

His LS is 25HP and 18 PTO so 5' cutting width.

I would find a used Brush Hog $500 and use that for a year or three depending on the end goal - a house lot, lawn etc.

If real bump finishing mower might not be a good option. If you have brush to mow don't put a finishing mower on it yet. If you want a lawn type cut rough cut mower, many will call a bushog (which is a brand) that is not the mower for you either. A flail mower depending on the flails on it you handle a reasonable amount of brush and also have a decent cut lawn. I like flail mowers but they are harder to make tight turns with and not damage a lawn.

Back to the bumpy ground, why not get rid of the bumps?

Yeah. A six foot flail mower works terrible at the corners mowing fields. Then you loose a foot or so for overlap. That leaves five feet. That is some slow production mowing. I know, I have done it.

Overlap is with any and all mowers. One reason performance wise the wider the mower the more efficient it is. If running a 6 foot mower and you over lap 1 foot that is way different that running a 4 foot mower and over lapping 1 foot.

Flail mower do have some advantage in a corner to me as they will come closer to mowing a square due to how close the cutters are to the rear of the mower and no big circle as with most rough cut mower. But you do need to lift them for sharp turns which for me requires backing up often.
