Others can chime in here, but here are my thoughts. The 790 is a 2000lb 27hp tractor with a gear transmission. The closest Kubota to that is the L 2800 which weighs a bit more, and lifts much more on both ends. The gear drive isn't the one to choose in that model perhaps because it doesn't have a "live" Pto. The L 3400 gear has more Pto hp, and the same lift capacity as the
L2800. I like that model because the Pto Setup is much better, the Pto hp is higher than the L 2800, or 790.... 29+ I think, and the price is the same as the L 2800 hydro. I think you would like the transmission setup better on the L 3400 gear than the one on the JD 790..... I do anyway.Though it isn't a synchro shuttle, it is pretty nice for a basic tractor. Though the JD790 is a very nice machine, I do like the
L3400 gear better in this class machine. You can work up a price on an L series at Kubota's web site to compare MSRP.
Kubota's
B7610 is the closest match to the JD 2320. It is a very rugged, and proven machine, but the JD has position control, higher loader lift, and I think a bit more loader capacity. It has a Quick change bucket on the loader which I like for changing to forks, etc. and has a drive over mower deck which I like too. In my area the prices for both are very similar, and I guess I would have to take the JD right at this point in time. Kubota is rumored to be replacing the smaller B series soon, and perhaps will offer a more competitive package. There may be some good buys out there on the basic B7xxx series now. Front mounted attachments for the Kubota are a much better match, size, and construction wise than the comparable JD units, (snowblower, front blade, etc.), and the quick hitch is every bit as nice.
Well, hope that helped some, and didn't add too much to the confusion...
