Out 0f all the things I don't know. I know I am glad I have mechanical injection and governer...a throttle cable and a muffler...that and that and the rest of the tractor,I can figure out on my own:)

Very true... And I am indeed jealous of your simpler, more user friendly setup... Take care!

I don't understand why everyone is so nervous about the tier 4 stuff. DPF and DEF are not new. Look at the big 3 automakers. Their diesel engines have been using DPF and DEF for 8 years now. I don't get how the tractor industry could just be figuring out this stuff on their own now. In 60 hours my tractor has done 1 regen and during that regen nothing was affected. Just keep working like normal.

If you're going to put around <1800 RPM with the emission stuff (for a long time like several hours) you're asking for trouble no matter what kind of emission system you have. I went through this with a diesel dodge pickup! People would use those trucks for putting around in town to go get groceries and not give it a workout. You had to work those trucks with the emission crap or you might get a bad surprise after some time.

The only solution to the emission "problems" is a delete. Maybe we will see delete kits for tractors sometime soon? lol...

OP I'm sorry I don't mean to help hijack your thread. Maybe we should start a thread just for emission talk?

Agree - I think this discussion was still relevant to the OP's decision at hand, but now we are opening Pandora's box.

Cranedaddy - your empirical knowledge of diesel engines is very useful and perhaps could be shared here at a more appropriate thread: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/buying-pricing-comparisons/315068-tier-4-a.html

My main goal is to keep things non biased based on owner's or dealer's brand, and stick to real world experiences or proven technology discussions. Also best practices like engine RPM, etc... If we can all learn the way these new machines work best, and probe for weaknesses, then perhaps owners of all types and brands of machines can get potential problems fixed within their powertrain warranty periods. Take care!

Big three have been using DEF since about 2011/2012. In 2008 some were using DOC's some DPF some a combo of both. Do you remember the early 2008 Superduty videos of them shooting flames out the tailpipe.

Yea there were some bumps along the way. For the most part the technology works. I like the cleaner exhaust.
