Which is the most liked garden tractor for...

Hi there,

Wanted to tap the collective wisdom of the group to try and figure out which is the most liked garden tractor and easiest to deal with company for the following price ranges;
less than $2500
$2500-$3500

PS I found a CC2521 for $3095 with a 44" deck and wondered if it is a deal worth chasing.

I am biased but I would recommend John Deere. There are several L series models under 2500.00 and two or three LT models in the 2500-3500 range. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I understand, John Deeres are nice. Lawn tractor = lt I believe and I was looking for something a little more along the garden tractor line of units. I will keep looking at Deere's on ebay perhaps I will find the right one for me. Again thanks for your input.

I did a lot of looking at GTs before I ending up getting a great deal on a Kubota B7300. I think that Cub Cadet offers the best bang for the buck. I would look at the 2000 and 2500 series. Several other brands make some great GTs, but, the bigger names come with a bigger price tag. I was wanting a GT2521. That is a heck of a tractor for the price.

For under $2500, I'd recommend a used Deere 318. It was the best of it's time and still better than many machines today. For $2500-3500 I'd recommend the Cub Cadet GT-2521-48 at a list price of $3899, or the Simplicity Conquest at a budget busting list of over $4000. If you look at 1-2 year old machines, you might find something at a discount off of new.

Chris, yesterday I took delivery of a Cub Cadet 2166 with 42" deck. List price $2999, actually paid $2299, plus tax but got free delivery, a dealer ball point pen and 2 category 1 4.5" top link pins (for my other tractors).

i have an old 1969 ariens s16h i love this old tractor. plenty of power with the 16hp single cylinder, hydrostatic trans, hydraulic lift for the front 54" blade, mid mount mower and 3 pt hitch. neighbor has a new john deere l-series "lawn mower" and hates it spent 2200 on it too. mine was complete and fully operational for 600. been offered and i refused 1500 on 2 separate occasions. they really dont make them like this anymore. new holland made a clone of mine for awhile and parts are easy to come by. most of the old garden tractors ( jd, cub, ariens, case, etc) are all great. just make sure its got some weight to it.

Did you mean to type the 2186 with the 44" deck or the 2180 with the 42" deck, or perhaps another model that I am not seeing?

Thanks so much for this information, the Deere 318 seems to be a very popular model, from what I have seen on Ebay etc. It seems to be that all of the model 318's that I have seen so far are several states east of me and the sellers are not willing to ship. There was a 316 earlier today that looked similar but without the power steering. They would ship but what price is the 316 or 318 worth?
