Which anti virus??

I had the very same issues with Norton. Finally got fed up with the mess and went AVG. AVG has always done everything that Norton did including installing automatic updates. The only addition that we use is the firewall software that is included with our DSL router.

AVG is free.....

For whatever reason, I could never get ZoneAlarm to install and run correctly. It's been so long since I tried, I can't remember what the issues were. It may be my OS too, I'm using WinMe. However I do use AVG as well and it seems to do a great job, so far. I have a firewall with the router and when I check the logs, it shows all kind of intrusion attempts.

Let me knnow how that works out for you. My Norton AV has insited that I uninstall it and re-install it three times in three years. I think I'm about done paying for software that doesn't work.........

I had Norton on here and then Macafee, but switched to AVG a couple of years ago. It's been good so far.

I don't (as far as I know) have a firewall other than what I had in Norton. Norton did seem to uninstall completely. AVG is up and running. Suggestions other than Zone Alarm, or is that the best freebie available?

Thanks to all for your input, and I am still "listening". This is on a PC that will access the net primarily for software updates. We have another PC we use for email, surfing, etc. It still has Norton, but that could change if the new protection on PC #2 proves successful.

Jerry, btw, utda.net is up and running. Just a bare framework, and no list of members yet as we just sent out membership packets 10 days ago, but the site is up.

In all the years I've been using AVG, none of my computers have ever "caught" a virus, and it's a lot less intrusive than Norton or MacAfee. A big "Thank You" to someone on TBN who recommended it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Leo LaPorte interviews Steve Gibson.. and they really get into the nuts and bolts of Internet Security. For example, they discuss NAT routers as firewalls, go into depth about encryption, discuss what buffer overruns really are, and so on. Put on your propellor cap before listening, but they're both great guys and Steve is a superb teacher. Hope somebody enjoys these....
