As stated in this worthy to read thread from 2013:

I have a few trees that I want to take down. They need a little help to fall in the right direction. What kind of rope would be good to use to pull them in the right direction while they are being cut?

I've the same problem. I've probably 10 to 50 trees that need "help". Most are about ~20" DBH, 40' plus sweetgum, some are pine and I've one oak about 30" DBH that wants to fall on my shops. Additionally there are understory trees about 12" DBH that need to be cleared.

I had been using an old 1" manila rope as my "prime" puller. It is now 2 ropes and both are retired. I've got lot's of 1/2" climbing rope in various lengths but that breaking strength is around 8K and I'd like to go with stronger and thinner. So I've been looking for Amsteel Blue/Dyneema 3/8" in 150' lengths. I'm planning on getting 1@ 150' and 1@ 75' and using snatch blocks to pull with come-along, battery operated winch, or tractor.

I would also like to get it with thimbles in both ends.

But as always I'm trying to save $$$.

So far Bailey's seems to have the best price, $332 for 150' w/ 1 thimble.

Amsteelblue.com wants $435, but with 1 thimble and 1 loop.

So any other places to look?

/edit - Just called Bailey's, they will put another thimble on for $25 :)
And Bailey's sells a "home brand" called Arbormax for $1.79/foot with an average breaking strength of 18,000 lbs. Amsteel is 19,600 for about 20% more.
And for dragging the trees I use 5/16 tow chains.
/edit2 poking around more on Bailey's I found the Arbormax 3/8 x 100' for $143 WITH a thimbled eye and hook on one end.

Geez - they are sure proud of their blue poly rope. I think I would obtain something else - read, less costly - to pull down trees.
