Just mounted a valuable new accessory to improve communications while tractoring. Will sell plans for $50.

OK, seriously - I generally carry a portable (not cell) phone while digging, and had trouble finding a place for it. I also drop it occasionally; haven't run over one yet, but it was only a matter of time.

Almost made a container out of PVC pipe, but want to hear the phone ring. Finally found a basket about the right size, five bucks at Staples. It's cable-tied onto the loose tab behind the seat, with a little extra inner-tube padding. Just right for a portable phone plus a place to park bits of litter, glass etc. that turn up.

Works fine for me, but might be a problem with a cell phone due to shielding - a plastic basket would be better, but I didn't find one.

Toothbar still gets my vote for favorite bolt-on, and 20' tow chain for most useful loose accessory.

That's a great idea. I have a "odds and ends" holder on my tractor right next to the cup holder that's very marginal when it comes to holding the cordless phone extension. It's just not deep enough. I suspect you could get one of those huge plastic drink cups at your local fast food burger joint, cut some holes in it and make it do for a non-metallic holder if needed.

You've given me some food for thought, though, good work.

I personally keep the phone on my person. You never know when you will be separated from the tractor.... and then what? Just my two common sense worth. ;)
