Where to buy creosote fence posts?

I did contact Quality fencing and they do use creosote fencing but from what I understand the general public can't but the material to soak their own wood in. They also want about $12 per foot to install a fence and I'm looking at 1,300' which is cost prohibitive and they don't sale material.

BTW, where is that horse farm?

It's where you turn off 231 to go to Cherokee Ridge. About 15 miles south of the river bridge. Farm is beautiful. He originally just had horses, but now he has some cattle also. His barn is beautiful.

Creosote Treated Lumber is available at about 26% more than treated wood.

Regular Treated (green)
I was given a price of $6.99 for 4"x4"x8' post and $7.83 for 1"x6"x16' so about $3.07 per ft and I can get another 10-15% off that by buying in bulk local so maybe get that down to $2.70 a ft.

Creosote Treated
Local fence company quoted me a price of $13.00 for 4"x4"x8' post and $12.96 for 1"x6"x16' so about $3.64 per ft.


I have 2600 ft to put up so roughly $7,020 for regular treated and it will need to be painted black. This does not include paint, nails or gravel mix at $1,500 =/- $300. Post hole digger @ $500 and paying the local kid on weekends to help with this.

Call it $11K for 2600' of painted black fence or $4.23 per ft.

A local fence company quoted me a creosote treated fence at $5.22 ft materials and $3.50 ft labor ($8.72) = $22,672

Well, dang, I wish there was a place like Stice here in N Cent FL.

The only problem with Stice is that they are popular. I live 5 miles down the road from them and still have to wait 2-1/2 months when I place an order for posts or cut lumber. The 1/4 rounds are normally not that hard to get because they are what's left after they make a round telephone pole square. Another nice thing about their lumber is that since it is from old telephone poles, it stays like they cut it. You don't have warping and twisting like CCA treated lumber. Their stuff is straight today, tomorrow, and ???.:thumbsup:

You need to locate some employees of the local telephone or electric companies. They will be able to tell you where the local pole yard is. There is usually a good supply of replaced poles available. Cars are busy knocking them over on most winter weekends here in Ohio. Regular maintenance also requires replacement. Tub grinders are used to mulch these but that is an expense. A hay wagon I used this weekend had the deck made from 2" planked poles. The man who built it has one of the large band saw lumber mills. His horse fencing was planked rail road ties. The ties were harder on the chainsaw then the bandsaw according to him. I would talk to some people in your area and see where the used poles end up.
