Other than "tractor heaven" or "tractor Hell" of course... I've seen junkers at dealers, but never at auto scrap yards that I can recall. I'd think someone has the equivalent of a tractor "pull a part" yard somewhere?

There are tractor salvage yards all over the country.

For example, when I needed parts for my mid 70's IH2500b, I found this place about 35 miles from me. It's an IH salvage yard.

When I was finally ready to get rid of that tractor, I went to them to order some parts to get it in better running condition before putting it up for sale. It was about $1500 in parts. The guy asked me what my plans for the tractor were. I said I was fixing it up to sell it. He asked how much I wanted for the tractor? I told him the price. He offered me my asking price less the $1500 I was going to put into it sight unseen! SOLD! They came and picked it up and handed me a check. He said they'd disassemble it and use it for parts. They'd make thousands more than I was asking, but it might take them 20 years to sell all the parts. Interesting business.

I got what I wanted and we were all happy. Tractor went to good use VS scrap. I'm sure they ended up scrapping some of it, heck, maybe most of it, but the engine, HST transmission, castings and such would be high dollar items on the used parts market.

There are heavy equipment junk yards also. I had a friend that was in his 80's that ran a part time business selling heavy equipment parts from his home. You would call him with your part needs, he would check with his salvage yards and then give you a price. Then the salvage yard would ship the part directly to you without any indication of where it came from.

The funny thing was, he had some health issues and was bouncing between the hospital and a rehab facility. He had his 800 number moved to the nursing home and was running his business from the nursing home. He didn't have much volume, but it kept his mind active.

Most will go to dealerships as new tractors.

Some folks will "part them out" and get more than scrap price for them.
