Without a good picture it's hard to say much as there are so many variations, between push pin types, twist and pull, to squeeze towards you while pushing and any other configuration possible. Many brought on my different safety standards being developed by different countries. My worst one recently had two shielded push pins 180 degrees from each other that both had to be pushed and held at the same time.

The mystery chains? Yes, they are mower stabilizer chains. They will support the 3pt if the arms won't stay up. They also will allow a person to run a cutter without the top link. If you are only mowing mostly flat land with no objects to hit, set the height with the chains and just mow.

I'm going to see how the bush hog works with the top link attached correctly before I fool with the chains again. I think they're totally unnecessary, but if I'm wrong, I will find out soon enough.
