Where do all the Owners Manuals go?

In the old days there was a place for owner info inside the front page of vehicle owner manuals. I have seen salesmen pull the manual out of the glove box and chunk it. Never figured that one out but it was common practice at one dealer I worked for.

It is a violation of privacy laws to tell a subsequent buyer anything about the previous owner. If you put any sort of personal information in the manual, it WILL get thrown away, just to protect the dealer from lawsuits.

It is shocking and troubling at the percentage of the population who are illiterate, functionally illiterate or find reading laborious and frustrating. Those folk tend to toss the manual where it won't bother them any more .

I make sure to have a manual (owners, parts, service) for every piece of equipment, tool, etc...I keep 3 forms of each; paper copy, pdf copy on desktop computer, and a pdf version in my Dropbox cloud account. I can access my Dropbox account from any mobile device which is really convenient when I am in the field, barn, workshop, etc...I am fairly new to cloud services, but am now a big fan of it for these types of things.
