Trying to pre-fill a horizontal mounted oil filter wont do anything but make a mess and waste good oil. My 2544 manual doesnt mention pre-filling the engine oil filter.

You just have to be *really* speedy gettting that filter tipped up and screwed on...

Exactly...I have only changed oil once and when it came to putting the new filter back on half full of oil, I thought it would be a mess with oil all over, but if you are quick, you can get the threads started without spilling hardly a drop. I didn't fill the filter to the top, but after letting the filter material soak up some oil, filled the filter half full. The trick is to get the threads started. When starting an engine up after an oil change, I don't make it a habit of opening up the throttle wide open immediately until I let the oil pump get going. There is no oil guage of course, so you have to trust the oil light on the hour meter.
