It could be the spring in your Bendix is too weak to disengage it when the engine starts. A new Bendix could cure your problem.

I agree with roadworthy. That would be one that I would remove the starter and investigate first. I wouldn’t try it in operation, be afraid I would do more damage

Does it sound like the starter is still engaged and trying to start the engine?

Most starters the spinning engine spins the bedix gear and forces it back towards the starter once the power to the starter is cut.

Dirt, debris or lack of lubrication can also make the bendix stick in the flywheel.
