Early 80's Kubota B8200
Hey guys,

Not easy to find info on my old b8200. What wheelspacer options are there for my tractor so I can clear chains? Would the skidsteer spacers work (same bolt pattern, etc?) I found 4 2" steel skid steer spacers for $300. I did find a cheaper looking set for a "B" series for $285+shipping, but they are just 2 plates with bolt patterns with some chunks of metal welded in between it looks like!! The skid steer ones I could sell the other set to my neighbor with his B9200 for his chains to clear better (he says they slap a little sometimes off something I think)

Also, are my front and rear bolt patterns the same? I won't be home to my tractor for a month, that's why I'm asking silly questions where most would think simply "geez, why doesn't he just go look at it?"

Thanks!

An alternative to metal chains and wheel spacers is to use rubber chains. They only require 1" of clearance versus the recommended 3" for metal chains. My neighbor has used them for over 8 years with great success (never been stuck). I just bought a set for my new to me L3130 based on his experience. They have proven their worth during the recent snow/ice storms the past month. Some of my neighbors have vary steep (>20%) long driveways.

I know they are not for everyone. Their benefits over metal chains include: fender clearance, light weight, good ride quality and do not leave marks on the driveway. On the down side the rubber cross bars will never be as durable as metal and do not bite into ice like some of the special "ice" chains. Replacement cross bars are available.

Sorry I could not help with the spacer question

COuld have been a good option. THe ice can be an issue (or hard packed snow). Chains just arrived at the house today my ol lady tells me.

Anyone know some spacer sources? Skid steer????

When I put R4's on my B8200, the same rim was specced out for B9200, B2150, and many other "B's"

Robert: What size R4's did you use to keep the front/rear ratios correct? Did you need all 4 new rims too? I assume you got these through Kubota?

SRS: I did turn that site up. Actually, its the ONLY sight I could find that advertises for the B8200. However, I'm weary of these welded spacers rather than a billet or cast steel piece. When hanging 2.5" out there with a BH and loaded tires crawling around the back part of my property or our camp, I'll get worried.

I think I only need to move my wheel out 1" or so to clear the chains. Anyone see any reason why I can't turn out a 1" spacer and use longer bolts? I understand there will be some more stress, but has anyone done this?

I got the same size as used on the B2150 and B2710. Those, and the B8200 specced out the same size turf and Ag tires(R4 was not an option in '85). Kubota dealer agreed they would work.

The rear turfs on mine had lots of tread, but the sidewalls were failing. Although I kept it in a shed, it had spent year before out in the weather.

The rear turf tire rim is too wide for the R4. I guess it could work, but the sidewall would be odd.

I bought the rear R4 with correct size rim from a nearby Kubota dealer. I reused the front rims with skidsteer tires of the correct size that I got from the local tire shop.

R4's will fit the rims used with the wider Ag tire, I believe the correct size is 12.4-16. The front rims used with Ag tires, are way to narrow for R4's.

The design is apparently a lot stronger than one would think based on a casual observation. Several years ago I had the same company make a set 4" wide on each side for my Bobcat skid steer that I used in abusive commercial applications including mud and over the tire metal tracks. I am thrilled with the stability and I feel almost invincible on side hills. At the time I, too, was a bit skeptical if they would hold up, but there has been no evidence of stress on the spacers or cracks in the welds. I give them a thumbs up.
