Hi all,
On some board, somewhere, I came across a link of someone that had made 2" thick aluminum spacers to mount std. 6" lugs to a 5.5" lug tractor (Yanmar). Has anyone seen this site, or do you know this guy, or or have any experience with doing this?

Thanks,
Rob

I believe it was Bama35640 who converted Yanmar wheels to Deere and machined wheel spaces....He also made spacers for the fenders. If you search wheel spacers you will find his pictures of the whole process.

If you are going to pay to have this done you can probably have Hey Wheel make the exact wheel you want for close to the same money. I have had them make several sets for me so I could mount the wide industrial tires on Yanmars.

Here are the wheels a local dealer had made for my 1500d, I needed to get a wider track due to hilly lot and he welded the centers farther in to get wider stance.

I looked into this and decided not to do it. My tractor is a little Mitsubishi 180H with 16" wheels, 6 lug on 5.5" circle.

The wheels on these tractors are located by the center hole on a machined projection on the axle. In order for a spacer to do that it would require a recess in the back and a projection in the front that matches the axle end. Without this the bolts are both holding the wheel on and centering it. The bolts are flat faced, not cone shaped like older cars that relied on the bolts to center a wheel. After looking at this I decided not to use a spacer.

I found a set of John Deere wheels and turf tires that are 31-15.5 x 15. The 31" OD is the same as the 8:00x16 original ag tires. I think these were on a JD/Yanmar 655. Anyway, I am having a machine shop drill a second set of holes to mount these on my 5.5" 6 lug axles. I will grind the welds loose where the centers are welded to the rims (4 places about 3" long), drive the centers back 2" to get the clearance I need, then realign the center and reweld.

I think this will be faster and cheaper than spacers and I just feel better about the fastening method.

What sort of ball park are you talking about for a custom set of rims?
If you look around turf tires and wheels with an alternate spacing are available pretty cheap (ie. eBay has some of similar diameter as my Yanny for $200 including tires and rims), and the spacers should run about $100 a pair.

Cheers,
Rob

I had the spacers made for my YM1500 to mount some rims and tires I got on Ebay. Good thing since the rims and tires will also bolt right on my JD4300 if needed. The spacers cost me less than 100 bucks. A friend did it but he used company steel/equipment/time so they had to charge...I was fine with that since his result was more artwork than "hub adapter!" Here is the link for that...

Here is the link to a guy who does this as his "regular job"

Hope this helps you some
