Wheel Loader Fire

Not much left when our guys got to it, well out in the woods with a couple of feet of snow to wade through while pulling hose. I didn't make the call but we believe a hose blew and the fire started from high pressure oil spray on the hot engine. It was equipped with a fire suppression system which was deployed but only knocked the fire down briefly.

Huh...At least nobody was hurt...

I doubt we find out since it'll be old news by the time the cause is determined or revealed, but I'm guessing atomized hydraulic fluid or oil (from a pinhole or leak in a hose) on the engine manifold.

So as a member of a VFD Im VERY interested in knowing what amount of gear the guys had on at the time of the incident.

Based on our own trouble of trying to get the guys (especially the young ones) to respond in full turnout gear with SCBA's is a constant battle, and seeing the pic in the article of a guy standing on the loader with absolutely no gear on, it really has me wondering about the level of protection the guys had at the time of the incident.

I'll keep an eye out from my "local sources"...;)

Yes, we need more videos like that...Maybe that will discourage stupidity...

Stupidity isn't the issue with the tire/wheel welding, ignorance is. Stupidity won't be bothered by videos, they will just think it will never happen to them.
