has been a very strange year. last year in the week bet. christmas and new year we got 7 ft. of snow in two days, then the month of jan was normal and feb. and march very little snow, then the spring was extremly wet right in to june and the very hot and dry, even now the leaves are hardly turned(when they should be in peak colors) and they are not eally falling yet. GUESS WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY IS, I DON'T HAVE A CLUE/w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Mother nature has been very good the past few winters here in the Northeast...

But this season... she's gonna give us a reminder of what winter is all about, so I can test my Rotella synthetic oil in my Deere, and the synthetic blend in the wife's Honda...

Wingnut,

Haven't been on one of those machines in years. The real time to ride was back in the 70's. Not too many people on the trails, and the machines had enough flaws that you still had to carry a repair shop in the the back. Extra plugs, wires, fuel, filters, screwdrivers, sockets, wrenches, belts, blanket, first aid kit, matches and tinder, spare socks, gloves, a bit of food, tow strap, signal flares... Now they tell me the new sleds have reverse. Mine had reverse too, you got off, grabbed the bar on the back and pulled and the darn thing went in reverse. Ah, but the days of a strong back are long gone.

One good thing, though. At least in this weather nobody will be chipping golf balls. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I'm hoping for a good old fashion winter, with lots of snow and frozen lakes - just like we all remember from when we were kids. Though I think we're due for one, I believe the experts who say the trend is towards milder winters.

/ whats your winter prediction #28
Well, an old wive's tales around here is: "Squirrel's nest high in trees a mild winter it will be, but if they're low lots of snow". A quick survey of the nests around the old homestead shows the nests very low.

I think we may get hammered.

I don't know about the golf balls .... but at least I won't be able to see them and get irate all over again.

I have had quite a few sleds with reverse like you mentioned ... I remember trying to use that reverse in the arctic when I "fell" off the packed trail into 6 feet of snow ... I was so exhausted, I didn't think I'd make it out alive.
The sled I have now not only has reverse but fuel injection and heated grips and passenger handles ... they have come a long way ... in cost too .... the first one I bought back in '73 cost $300 ... this one cost 30 times that! Men, boys and the cost of their toys!

I'm thinking positive, we'll have Indian Summer till December 23. Then a blizzard with 2 ft of snow so Santa will have some smooth sledding and the kiddies can enjoy their new sleds an make snowmen.

On January 2nd it all melts an goes immediately into to spring...

I know, I'm dreaming..

Alex,Being that I live 20 miles south of Buffalo,NY(which is considered the snow belt area of WNY)Iam going to go out on a limb and say it will be snowy.
Then again since I now have a fel it could be the driest winter in recorded history.........Mike

If the past couple of weeks is any indicator I'd say southeast Texas is in for a rainy winter. Seems I read somewhere a while back that the influences of el nino are back again so maybe that means rain and not so cold this winter?

Heads up Wingnut!

Woke up this morning with sun shining and now 2 hours later it's snowing like crazy! Really coming down out there. They tell me it's been snowing North of here most of the morning and there's quite a few accidents.

Just a warning that it's coming your way. Should be there in a couple of hours.

Thomas, the snow never did make it this far (just a few sprinkles where the flakes melted before hitting the ground). Rode the Wing on Sunday to get some hardware ... and rode to work yesterday. Colder today and rain predicted, so it's snoozing.
As I said ... I'm not ready to put it to bed yet ....
