I like about three inches for all my lawn areas. It's a mixture of bermudagrass and different annual wild grasses and fescues.

4 inches when getting drier. 3 inches in fall down to 2.5 inches right when it snows

I do pretty much the same. Shorter right before the leaves fall so they don't get tangled in the grass and blow over to the neighbors. ;)

Here in VA where the summers tend to be hot and dry - with fescue lawns that die off - i try to go as high as possible.. least 4" possible 4.25"

going that high also helps eliminate scalping on high spots..

Typically 2.5 around my property (2 in the paddocks - mulching horse 'droppings').

I have a lot of forest critter droppings to take care of (wallaby, pademelon, potaroo, brush-tail possum)... fortunately it's all vegetation based.

Dunno how you measure it! My new ZTR I leave at 3 1/2 but it doesn't look that high to me. I set it to the point where I know I'm not scalping or getting anywhere near it.

4" for the lawn areas, 5" for the horse pastures.

Here in Graniteville SC, I have nothing but sand. I call my lawn the beach without the ocean. Anyway, I have an Ariens zero turn and whenever I would cut the grass, I would get a sand storm from the blades rotation. I have it set at three and a half inches. Purchased a new set of blades and prior to installing them I placed the blade cutting ends in a rather large vice and with the aid of an oxy/acet torch I heated the turned up portion of the blade to almost cherry red and took the curled edge out of them to make the blades nearly flat. This stopped the sand storm effect yet still cuts the grass very nicely. By putting the cutting edge of the blade into the vice, this prevents the cutting/working edge from loosing its temper. I call the zero turn my flying carpet because it is very much like what I can imagine being on a flying carpet feels like. Bob

Typically 3" for Blue Grass and Fescue, hopefully that will keep it from burning up in the summer.

Both our JD and Honda walk behinds are set for about 4 inches. Supposed to be fescue and Kentucky blue, but lots of other green stuff in there that some people call weeds. It's all green. I call it "lawn". Only need it in areas where I drive the tractor or to easily access some stuff where it's too much to mulch.

Best grass I have is some farmer-sown fescue going down the hill and along the creek. Never sees lime nor fert nor watering.
