Hytrel, GFN and Neo Fab seals for use in a hydraulic cylinder.

I'm rebuilding a couple and have them apart, but don't know the details of which seal material to order.

The system is 2000 psi and will run up to 140-150F after operating for a while.

thanks

What would make the "details" critical for your choice of seal??
You might not have to worry so much about material in the seal, maybe seal profile design is more critical??

Hytrel seems to be a good material

Which composition came in the cylinder? Usually, seal composition is more a factor of seal style than anything else. Post some pics of your seals so we know which style they are. Also, when you call the seal company to order, they will help you pick the best seal for your application.

The style is simple Vee. Stacks are 1.0 inch. I don't know what the exact composition is of the current seals. They are black with fibers in them and pretty stiff. Black with age? wear? temperature exposure? Stiff with age? Some are brown and more stiff and others less stiff. The cylinders don't have the same materials in each -- obviously rebuilt at some time. That happens with 40+ year old equipment.

Of the 3 listed materials - what are the characteristics of each? That's what I want to get educated on. (Thanks!)

Oh....so you do not need a seal....you want education about seals....that will take a seal teacher then....read here a pdf from Parker seals

Where did you get these terms "Hytrel, GFN and Neo Fab"....it seems like there is no such info about "GFN".....NeoFab (fabric reinforced Nitrile) is an older material in U-seals, common in pneumatic applications, today most likely replaced with modern materials and other profiles....

Fordtractor,

I take it your ovh'ing Ford hyd cyls????

OEM Ford used Neofab V rings and phonelic male and female adapters......

I prefer in my repack jobs what Allegheny York calls a HI-LOP V pkg set......the male and female adapters are nylon and the vee packings are neofab/hytrel stacked alternately

http://www.alleghenyyork.com/pdf/vee/packing_sets.pdf

These stand up very well.......
