What's the best wash to remove diesel exhaust residue

I'm going to wash my yellow John Deere snowblower this weekend before I put it away for the season,
and it has a lot of diesel exhaust residue on it, what's the best wash to remove the residue easily?

A little polishing compound or if stubborn some rubbing compound. Wax the area to help with the next cleaning.

Try a surfactant such as 409 or Fantastik

WD40 would probably do it. Works pretty good on road tar, too.

Have to be careful with brake/parts cleaner around some paint and plastic parts.

I would not use brake cleaner, I would be afraid it would dull the finish on the paint. But WD40 will not hurt the finish, and you can wash it with detergent to get rid of any residue.

Simple Green seemed to work for me. The smell isn't too enjoyable though!
