Where do I begin.....
What\'s left to do this summer?

Alright.

Summer's over as of yesterday afternoon.

Guess it's what FALL work is there to do?

This weekend, I'll mow the last of the pastures needing cut. 28 acres.

In a few weeks, start picking 25 acres of ear corn. (Always LOVE pulling the corn picker!)

Then start bringing in all the firewood that's piled around the place. Stock the "good wood" up towards the house, and the "junk wood" by the shop.

Feed cows EVERY DAY.

Wait for spring.

Do it all over again. (If I'm lucky!)

FOR STARTERS
1*Enclose a 22x 16 stall in my 22x76 metal building and install heat and air so i can use it this winter to tinker around on the BX23.
2*Work on 2 drainage ditches
3* install 120 feet of culvert in a road ditch

Yeah...... I have a feeling my list is "for starters" too /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Wife has plans on a new sunroom on the back of the house. Guess who'll be getting to wrestle with that?

Firewood, firewood, firewood............got a bunch! I know ya'll are tired of hearing it but I got a bunch that's free for the taken! BTW...no smart remarks about cutting and delivering.

Good news though, three familys have taken about 10 trailer loads but they haven't even dented it. Thats how I broke my tractor... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.
No good deed goes unpunished. If your in the western PA area, bring your trailer and we'll load you up....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cherry, locus, maple and a lil oak...
Free firewood

It is??? I didn't notice. It was 101 here yesterday. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
But then we don't plan on fall until around the end of Oct. And don't stop mowing until Dec. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: What\'s left to do this summer?

Summer is definately over around here. It's been cold and wet now for almost a week.

I just play, but here's what is on the short list so far.

Re-furbish old mower
Mow pasture to get rid of what the horses wouldn't eat.
Harrow two pastures.
Till the other pasture to prepare it for re-planting
Re-landscape the back yard so it slopes away from the house rather than towards it.
Prepare a seed bed in the back yard for planting lawn.
Till up what's left of the garden. (growing season is about over for us now.)
Move the manure from the pile in the corral to the garden spot.
Till the garden again after spreading manure.

Re: What\'s left to do this summer?

I keep a running list so I'm prepared with my report:

Trim low hanging branches so I can get new tractor around edges of fields
Cut up the branches I trimmed off last weekend
Drop three big trees that died (or find someone to do it)
Shear a few problem Christmas trees
Hit some emerging brush in my border beds with RoundUp
Fix my counter-balanced wooden gate
Spray paint my metal gate
Stretch two 100-foot sections of fence I tacked up last year but never finished
Put mulch paper and chicken wire around 12 new chestnut trees
Trim two hedges
Replace the hasp on the garage doors
Fill some small holes that mysteriously appeared in the yard
Dig the last two rows of potatoes
Change the belt on my DR mower
Finish brush hogging the bottom land
Put new oil-cloth on the porch tables
Look for a replacement log for our footlog (last fall's flood victim)
Reset gate post on left side of driveway
Take nap in hammock

Seems that no matter what I'm doing, I feel I should be doing something else.

Re: What\'s left to do this summer?

I tried to keep lists, but I kept getting redirected to "more important things". /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This weekend's "plan" is to tie in the new waterlines at the pump house and make final connections on the electric that was installed in the trench.

Still lots of rocks to gather up from trenching but I've got all winter to finish that one. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: What\'s left to do this summer?

Number one on my list is building a 21' x 22' tractor barn so I don't have to brush snow off the JD 4310 this winter. It's not exactly a barn, but it will be too nice to call a shed. I have the topsoil stripped off, my batter boards in with strings up, and I'm waiting for my building permit to arrive in the mail. I hope it's soon. I have about a month of good building weather, then a month of not-so-good weather, then probably off and on snow for a month.

I'll be posting pics in the Projects section when I get into it.
