What's Happening with Gasoline Prices

   / What's Happening with Gasoline Prices #61
Jim, I've been doing more than the usual going the last few days, so I stopped to fill up again this morning at the new Quick Trip, then went inside to see what the store looks like, and I asked if they had a limit and the guy said no limit. I told him I was just wondering what would happen if someone showed up with a 250 gallon tank in the bed of his pickup and he just shrugged.:D

Bird, I was in Saginaw yesterday and filled up at the Walmart there for $2.199. We also drove through Blue Mound and saw a QT station there with a price of $2.159. That makes me believe they are still making a little money at the $1.999 price and there is no need to limit purchases. They normally only do that when it's a short gimmick sale for marketing exposure. This price made the Dallas Morning News online pages, but it's not like those stations that rollback prices to rediculously low prices for national news coverage.

I think he sets prices based on the current NYMEX price.

My suspicion is that most stations _raise_ prices based on NYMEX but _lower_ them based on local competition..... quick to rise, slow to fall.

We are paying $2.62 for 87 octane and have been for a few weeks. National average is $2.57 so you guys in TX are making out like bandits :)
