What's happened to Craigslist?

Any box scraper listed around here for a reasonable price will be gone in hours. What's "reasonable"? Under $500-600 and not all worn out.

You just have to be patient, monitor CL every day, then pounce when one gets listed. No waiting for the weekend.

But assuming the price is fair

Here's a CL ad that is probably legit, but shows what spell check can do... Roto-tiller - farm & garden - by owner - sale

I could be mistaken but suspect that he typed "King Kutter", not "King Litter".

(Not a bad price either, if it's in good condition.)

I think they just relaxed in coping on the market. I mean to develop a good product is not enough. Once you've created a Blue Ocean, wait for competitors. Even if you have the pioneer advantage, competitors might develop better customer service, or whatever. I've been using it for years, but when the quality started to drop considerably, I started searching for Craigslist alternative on the market. I mean, even my loyalty couldn't accept the cheap stuff and bad service anymore. Anyway, for all those in business, this is a great "Do Not" example. I am sorry for them, maybe something happened with the founders, no idea.

I think it depends on your locality. Around here Craigslist is still going fairly strong. Other places I have been recently, not so at all. Competition amongst selling platforms is great but it is a little frustrating to have to constantly change the way you buy or sell things to stay up with the latest fad method.

Craigslist is great for me!

Over Memorial Day weekend I took a carload of stuff to a local hospice support thrift store. They loved the old Schwinn bicycle etc but won't take furniture. Second stop Goodwill, learned they don't take furniture either. So I brought home the bookcase and folding bed. Added what would have been more than a carload of stuff I know neither would want - herbicide sprayers, rusted tools, 50+ dirty plastic flowerpots, unique drawers salvaged from old furniture. A stained mildewed wood box labelled from import of several fifths of Scotch whiskey. A garden hoe with conduit handle. Lots more, indescribable and useless.

I put this pile of junk out where our lane meets the county road and posted a Free ad on CL with nice photos, and the comment 'Stock your next yard sale!'

EVERYTHING went except the gallon herbicide sprayer with tape on its hose. That was added only to resist kinks but it looked like a leak patch.

I'm pleased with the CL result! (y) :)

Why make a dump run?

I thought I posted this here but it must have been in a different thread:

Several years ago I got a ton of absurd barter offers when I listed a small tractor on CL, $1500 Cash Only.

A "Treasured Bicycle" and "leftover vinyl siding" were among the notable barter offers.

I emailed back the Simpson cartoon 'Grandpa shouts up at the clouds and shakes his fist', to an insistent cheapskate. That shut him up.

There is a lot more competition out there; as mentioned Nextdoor is a venue, and there can be several facebook groups for every community, as someone takes offense at something and starts their own faction, and on it goes. Now someone needs to come up with a spider search that encompasses all of these groups. We've come a long way from when the only way to buy and sell was the Nickel Ads and IGA shopper.
i loved the nickel ads....

CL kinda works here but recently my son posts on FBM a copy of my CL & NextDoor listings and FBM gets rapid responses and things sell for good prices before I get a hint of interest from the others.

I think it's because you're fed ads on FB from FBM (similar to a lesser extent on nextdoor) and it's more "real people" selling & buying than the total anonymity of CL.

Craigslist is pretty dead I typically find stuff on Facebook marketplace nowadays.

FB marketplace works pretty good for me - for buying and selling. Making it a regional area, prevents tire kickers that say they will drive 5-6 hours for a specific meeting appt ... and then never show up, never call, never reschedule = flakes

I like castanet.com in my area. Very regional, harder to mess with your neighbours, so it works well.
