WHAT Tractor WOULD YOU BUY?

After researching night after night about modifing my Yanmar 1300, 2WD, to make it work, rear dirt scoop, small loader, etc. My wife said just get what you want, sell the other one. Hopefully can recoop most of my money, have a lot of extras, new seat, extra wheels/hubs/turf tires, 3 point hitch, etc. Have 2500 in it, which does include a 2 point tiller, might be better to keep it. However, with that being said, what would you guys recommend for a 3 and 1/2 acre lot. I have 2 acres open, I have a king kutter 4 foot for that. The other acre and a half is heavily wooded plan on cutting/trimming, for firewood. Making a walking trail through the woods, snow removal (on pavement) about 100 feet. If I sell the 1300, I know shuttleshift would be nice for the mowing, but mowing is easy, no obstacles. Looking to build a house so plan on doing a lot of landscaping. Looking for something little bigger, do not need large 4wd. How about something 1500-1600 range? 1500D, 1510D, 1601D, 1610D, etc. Or would you just keep what you got and proceed with the dirt scoop, etc. My main concern is when I get in the woods, it is a slanted hill about 10-15 degrees.

IMHO....of the tractors you've listed (including the "D" 4WD models) and staying in that power range....1610D. The transition from your YM1300 to the YM1610D will be quite impressive (like night and day). I own both models and there is no comparison other than graduating from Toy to Tank. It is also a model that is FEL ready (especially the D model) and with the addition of ROPS it will most probably be the last tractor you buy (in that HP range).

I should add that a respectable dealer may be the most important part of selecting your tractor.

I'm not as nearly as knowledgeable as Mark and do agree with finding a decent dealer.

With that said, if the budget can afford it you might want to give consideration of a little newer model, something like and Fx17 or Fx17D. The step through design makes getting on/off a little easier and you'll like the powershift mounted on the right fender and not between your legs. The creeper gear is separate from the trans as it is available in any gear or range, thus affectively doubling the number of speeds. With the creeper gear engauged in 1st low range speed is 1/8 mph and in 3rd high range it just under normal 1st low range. This gives you an affective 18 speed range to select from. Not sure the smallest of this series has UFO but if it does, the hyd tilt for the 3pt is nice.

If you purchase service then these newer models may only make sense if your dealer normally handles them. Parts if needed are not all that difficult to get.

I have a 1510D with a FEL. It handles all my implements fine (5' RFM, 42" rotary cutter, 4' box blade, 5' rear blade and small pull behind disk). It is tippy on 10-15 degree slopes though. Either buy a tractor with a ROPS or be sure you have money set aside to buy one. The power shift is nice to have for loader work (I use it by far less for mowing). The 1610D is one of the tractors Wayne of LMTC could get you including a ROPS and other safety features.
