What to do ? Purchase or go elsewhere ?

/ What to do ? Purchase or go elsewhere ? #21
I think the bottom line for me would be, "what works best for me". If proving a point or giving the dealer "what for" is more important than getting my equipment in a time frame that works best for me, then I would go somewhere else.

Is this a crappy situation to be put in? Yes

Is chest pounding and taking your business elsewhere causing you delays and negotiations with someone else the best way to go? Only you can tell. At my age I would get the best deal I could from the present dealer and to work, but that's just me and time means far more to me than a few bucks.

what i don't understand and this is if i read everything right is that you got a quote for the entire package bucket included, but after he found out he didn't have the bucket in stock you would have to pay an extra $400 for him to order. well if he bid it with the bucket the price should be the same even if he has to order the bucket.

I would just accept the fact that he canceled the deal, and move on. If he didn't keep his word on this, or didn't understand how much it was going to cost to get the things you ordered in, he will have the same problem with other things.... I supervised a large group of folks for many years, and I found that usually if someone's mate couldn't trust them, then I couldn't either. It is the same thing here. That dealer needs to know what he is doing when he is doing it............. not later. How would you have been treated if you cancelled the deal when he had it ready to deliver? :D

It depends, if he figured the deal and didn't include a bucket at all, I'd probably pay the extra. If on the other hand, he figured a bucket in the deal, then he finds out latter he doesn't have it on the lot, I'd say he should eat the cost.

Speaking of the pride issue, when we bought the car my wife drives, a dealer tried to pull a fast one on the rebate, and we walked out of the dealership after they had half the paper work filled out. They called us at home before we even got home and said they would do the deal at the price we were expecting. We passed on it and went else where. We ended up paying about $1000 more for the same car, but at least the dealer was honest about it. The truth of the matter is, I'd wish we would have gone back to the original dealer and been $1000 richer. I guess my pride isn't worth $1000!

Like dodge man said, Whats your pride worth?? Could you get a better deal elsewhere??

Thats one drawback to running with a real low bottom line. You may move tractors but one error and the deal will fall apart or worse you will be branded a cheat.

I own a buissness my self and everyone is human and we ALL make mistakes. There are times when I may eat the mistake and times when I just cant and will tell the customer what happened and give them a choice...new deal or drop out. In my case usually a distributor promises delivery by a certain date and fails to make it. And the only way to get it would be to next day air the item from somewhere else. If I can afford to eat the freight on the next day shipping I will, just to please the customer but if it means losing money..no way.

So I would want to know exactly what the screw up was before making judgment. BUt then again I can pass judgement because I have been on both sides of the table. Like someone once said Sh#t happens and sometimes beyond our control.

Ultimately you need should go with your gut feeling on this. If you think the dealer goofed and is still trying to make an honest deal with you, go ahead with it. Just ask him to remember it when you need parts or service down the road. On the other hand, if something still smells fishy after you've had a day to think about it, you might want to look elsewhere.

Well, for now, I've decided to go with the same dealer and basically pay cost for the bucket which he forgot to add into the price. Still a good deal I guess, but this has just been a hassle. It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow evening. We'll see if it works out as expected.

Thanks to all for your comments/advice.

Didn't work out. Dealer again made some promises that he didn't live up to, making me lose any trust I had left in them. I'm done with that dealer, probably forever.

Barlow Equipment here I come !! :)

Brady will treat you right. I bought from him 18 months ago and would do so again in a heartbeat.

This dealer actually did you a favor. You found out you didn't want to deal with him and you can walk away without an expensive bright orange reminder of the experience. Someone else will be glad to take your money. When you finally get your new tractor it will be even sweater.

Nothin' like dealing face to face and looking them in the eye to guage whether you're getting treated straight, or not. Of course, once you get around all that new machinery, you may be hooked. There's a reason they have them out on display.

I can vouch for Barlow Tractor, I have bought 2 tractors and a couple pieces of equipment and I will call Brady when I go to buy again. Did I mention that I have never met them or been to their lot. All business was completed over the phone. Wait I have met their delivery guys.

I have met them and looked them in the eye. More than once.:D They are all great guys. I saw Gary and Steve today when I picked up my tire that Gary put a tube in for a warranty repair. There was a really neat BX1860 parked in front of my vehicle and those RTV's inside and the great big one with the tracks just outside the door and all those implements that I had to drive between getting in to the office and back through the middle of them to get back out to the highway. I'm almost sure some of them were softly calling my name and some sounded like they were crying and sobbing and saying "John, please take us with you". Wow, I could feel myself being transported back to their lot while writing this.:D

Sounds like my experience years ago with ordering a new Toyota Camry.
My wife and I waited 6 weeks for delivery, when we went to pick up the car, the price had mysteriously been changed - UP - by several hundred dollars.
Reason? "southeast Toyota", the importer and "controller" of all Toyotas sold on the East Coast had added an pgraded radio, floor mats, and "special protectant" (they sprayed undercoat and spray-waxed the car).
My wife says "let's go!". We got up and walked out f the dealership.
The salesman chased us down, agreed to talk to the sales manager, and came back with the difference ADDED into our trade-in. We bought the car (at the ORIGINAL PRICE WE AGREED TO PAY).
Point of the story? If they want to sell the item, then THEY stand behind the original deal.
Good luck.... I'd say there are lots of dealers that are more careful about the deals they offer...check them out.

When I bought my tractor, the salesman told me that a 3 PT hitch was included in the price. It turns out it wasn't supposed to be but he told us that he would eat the cost of that part.

Since he would have had to order the 3 PT, I asked if we could apply to price to a Top-n-Tilt, which is what I really wanted, and he said we could.

I am certain he made something on the T-n-T, although not as much as he wanted to, and I came away happy.

Measure what your dealer is doing by this.

Please give mine a kiss on the fender for me, I have to wait a few weeks for (her?)

Which ones yours? There's a bunch there to kiss.

Reading these posts for the first time, I suspect the first dealer didn't make a "mistake" on the bucket and he probably had one in inventory. From the timing it sounds like he had someone come in that was willing to pay more, so he sold it out from under your deal. Fool me once, your bad, . . . .

Hmm. Never thought of that, but I guess that is possible.
