Dragoneggs, very generous of you to offer Check your game camera. But is it high-definition? If not, how is it going to pick up tiny extraterrestrials as they move about?

My pick for the answer is: Boards are resawn from old post & beams. Holes are from old wood pegs/pins, that held it all together. Barn was dismantled by just cutting the pins at the joint, you can't really knock them back out. The boards were then resawn with pegs left in the beams, & they are now falling out. Holes are too even & perfectly aligned to be some random critter. The only things that makes round, even holes that I can think of is the Carpenter bee, & they are never that large.

Before I believed it's just knot holes, I'd scrape a layer or two of dirt from a board to check the grain.
Wear on wood floor (see upper L corner of 2nd pic, post #338) suggests heavy traffic through doorway.
Maybe a steel-wheeled cart or dolly of old wore a 'limited' path, contained by whatever was perhaps lag-bolted to floor to right of doorway.
IMO a possible hole 'pattern' on floor hints that something was mounted where lack of traffic minimized 'erosion' on the area less worn.
Plugs in floor holes since equipment was removed continue to fall out due to seasonal extremes of moisture/humidity and temps.
My guess is as good as mine any day.
Well, I have looked through the holes down to the ground underneath with a strong light, and I haven’t spotted any round pegs or anything like that.

Extremely good question! Now I need to find the specs to make sure the resolution and minimum focus length is suitable for this assignment. If I partake, I need to feel comfortable the tool is up for the job! This might require an empirical test before dispatching.

From what I understand of miniature extra-terrestrials, you will need a camera response in the ultra violet spectrum if you are to have any chance of detection. Their ghostly images will never show up using standard infra-red detection techniques.
The traps and flour and all other suggestions are with good intent - and maybe I missed it - but why not use a good old fashioned glue trap like the ones made by Tomcat? That way - whatever is taking the bait is going to 'stick around' for when you return.
