At what temperature does diesel begin to gel?

We are forecast to have temperatures in the teens Tuesday night along with up to a foot of snow. This is extremely rare for here in south Louisiana. I want to have my skid steer and tractors available to push a little snow, and to pull cars out of ditches, if needed.

I have never added any sort of 'anti gel' product to my diesel.

You will be ok in the teens...22 below here and a high of 7 below next two days. I add Hot Shot treatment and never had any issues.

It's cloud point you are worried about. That's where crystals of paraffin start to form. Those will clog the filters.

It depends in part on how much paraffin is in the diesel.

It's important to note, however, that diesel gelling only occurs at very cold temperatures, below 10°F (-12°C). If you're experiencing issues at temperatures above 10° to 15°F (-12° to -9°C), you're likely dealing with an ice issue, rather than a gelling issue.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will be okay. I will put the skid steer inside my shop, but it does not have any heat.

We are at 20F now and forecast to go into the teens on Tuesday night. Here is what Google says, YMMV. The cloud point, which is my major concern, is where the paraffin or wax begins to form crystals causing the fuel to cloud up, which clog up filters and injectors. The problem is the biodiesel causes it to have issues at a higher temp than diesel without biodiesel.

I treated all my diesel vehicles and tractors with Power Service white bottle just to be safe, plus topped them all off with fresh diesel so they have some winter blend in them. I did have one pickup not start at 20F before so I want to be on the safe side. Also have 2 bottles of the Diesel 911 on the workbench, just in case. The Power Service directions say to treat biodiesel with a higher concentration of additive. It is hard to find diesel that doesn't have biodiesel added. One of the local feed stores has it, although it is more expensive than other locations.

I have both. Adding the white bottle ahead of time is easier, just add it to the tank. If you freeze up 911 goes in the fuel filter as a 50/50 mix with fresh diesel plus adding it into the tank. But it works.

I would add an anti gel. It is cheap insurance.

This is what I use. Less than $15/bottle to treat 100 gallons. I uses double the amount where I am. 5 below tonight.
