What size bush hog for L3010

Note that greasing the fittings on either ends of the shaft between the Woods brush cutter and the pto requires taking off the plastic shield (they don't tell you that in the manual - but just try getting a grease nozzle near the fittings any other way).

I've got a Woods BB60. I can reach one of those fittings easily, without removing the plastic shield. The other I have to remove the shield, and even then it's tough. It looks as though if I could spin the angled zerk a bit (or replace it) I'd be able to reach, but I haven't tried that yet.

I don't have a Woods brand, so I don't know, but on my equipment I can grease the u-joints (I'm guessing that's the fittings you are talking about) by doing it when the implement is not hooked up to the tractor. I swing the drive shaft off to one side and turn it until the fitting is in the right place to get the grease gun on it (on some have to use a pry bar through the front u-joint to turn the shaft). I don't know if that would work for you, but for me at least, it's a nuisance, but easier and quicker than removing the plastic shield.

On the Woods BB600, there are fittings at the end (the U-joint) and mid-shaft. The mid-shaft is a cinch (trap door over it), but the U-joint requires rotating and sliding off (a few inches) the plastic sleeve - no big deal, & easier than taking off the whole shaft, but it wasn't in the manual so it took me a while to figure out).
As to the "standard duty" Woods brush cutter at 60 vs 72 inches, such are different beasts from the "medium duty" BB600 I have (the 60" BB600 weighs 1039 lbs whereas the BB60 at 72" only weighs 702 lbs). You could probably get by just fine in tall grass / weeds with a 72" BB60 on your 3010, and you could probably use it on a large country lawn instead of buying a mower attachment (don't even think of driving your L3010 on a wet lawn - wives don't like tire tracks). One last thing, I used a 72" heavy duty box blade (rippers, the whole shebang) most of last weekend behind my L3410. The dealer had recommended the 60" unit as "you may have troubles pulling a dirt loaded 72". Fair enough, as I had to raise the 3pt a few times to unload a bit of dirt when I was driving through particularly soft/wet areas, but it was not a big deal (just smoothed it out with the FEL and moved on). Your L3010 will handle similarly (when I had problems, it wasn't horsepower, it was traction on the R-4's despite 4WD). It's sure nice not seeing tractor indentations (and they can be deep in soft dirt) behind your box blade. The 72" will cover the tracks of a L3010, but a 60" will not.
Good luck, and enjoy your tractor.
