what on earth does electricity cost near you?

The hoops our electric co-op makes wannabe PV users jump thru to be able to tie in to our local grid just makes it a nightmare. Not worth the effort.

As a technology, there are some things I like about PV.... but not for the first time, humans (that are in control) can quickly mess things up....

+ they make you pay for their engineering review of your plans. Not a good way to treat owner-members!

Our co op just increased our user/meter fee from $20 to $43.50. I have 2 meters, so it's up $27 without using any electricity. The rate stayed at .12/kwh.
It sounded like they needed to get a fair share from the minimal users(solar users).

Clearly, prices are only going to continue to get worse.....

One (Megawatt) is the loneliest number, but hundreds of batteries are absurd

Currently $0.32 per kw
Imagine paying $7.68 if you left 1 100 watt bulb on 24 hours!!
Massachusetts has passed into law that new 2024 construction requires a 400 amp service with no propane appliances!!
As usual lawmakers are passing laws without thinking about implications. Where’s this power coming from??

Mine runs from $0.18 to $0.22 doing plain old simple math, the bill divided by kwh.
Thats what leaves my pocket going to National Grid.

I don't recall how cold Jan 23 was here but we saw temps down to minus 5 this past Jan. During Jan 23, I used 4,167 watts where as this past Jan 24, I used 3103 with the overall cost being 332.98 or 10.7 cents. Reading what some pay, I feel a bit better.

$1,000,000 per Megawatt/Hour grid-scale battery storage.
vs
$45.00 per Megawatt/hour for Coal or Natural Gas fired energy. With base load capability that green power will never have!

My Kilowatt/hour rate is based on the cost of replacing batteries at the end of there life.
So far the cost over twenty years has penned out to be around .023/Kwhour.
The replacement cost for batteries has continued to decline over the years.

Complaints too many have solar so utilities have less billable to support operations…

Yet… they ban new gas hookups and not expect the same when fewer gas customers?

How bad was last week's power outage for you in the E. Bay, Curt?
4.5 days no power here, but we have a generator, a wood stove, gravity-fed water, and a gas stove.

Others not so fortunate. Thousands of urban and suburban residents out of power for days and they rarely have woodstoves or generators.
