If they told you that you have to use their oil it is against the law. According to the (federal law) Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act passed by Congress in 1975 it is illegal for them to require you to use their oil to keep the warranty. If they do they have to give you the oil for free. They have no legal right to tell you that you have to use a specific manufacturers oil. They can only specify what type and what the required specifications are. As long as you use the correct oil that meets the manufacturers specifications you are covered.
