I'll run Rotella when I'm out of warranty - my 50 hour just filled it up with the Kubota 10W-30... Why? Well, until it's out from under Kubota's "protective services" - I'll stick with there stuff - less finger pointing should something really bad happen (the difference in cost is worth the time spent arguing - in my simple mind).

If they told you that you have to use their oil it is against the law. According to the (federal law) Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act passed by Congress in 1975 it is illegal for them to require you to use their oil to keep the warranty. If they do they have to give you the oil for free. They have no legal right to tell you that you have to use a specific manufacturers oil. They can only specify what type and what the required specifications are. As long as you use the correct oil that meets the manufacturers specifications you are covered.

On my second oil change I mixed Rotella and some Fleet Farm brand made by Citgo I get for 1.50 a quart. I know a guy who runs only Fleet Farm brand and has 270k in his Dodge diesel, so it can't be bad oil.

Good refresher on the specifics of the law - I am familiar with it. It applies to filters (air and oil) too. So - nobody told me I have to use Kubota brand - rather I usually stick to "factory" parts for the duration of a warranty period... that way, should something happen - the discussions are simply "when". It's my way of buying piece of mind - that's all.

It's in our class C Motorhome. Not a truck.

I just bought a B1550 and am waiting for a manual. I am planning on running Rotella in it? What do you use?

When you get the manual for the B1550. It will be outdated for the current oils that are offered. Still think Rotella "T" would be your best choice.

I use Kubota branded dino 10w30 in the BX23. In 200 hrs it hasn't required any oil added in between the scheduled maintenance so it works for me

If I had an older tractor with mucho hrs I'd go with the 15w40.

My not Bota's I tried multi weight on these old war horses but it increased oil consumption and smoke at startup.
I ran straight 40w in my ole gas powered 1948 TE20 and it kept the pressure up even at idle (6-10 psi), it didn't like multiweight.

I run straight 30w in my ole 1966 K181s powered WheelHorse, it doesn't like multi weight either....

I also realize that Kubota can't require that you use their oils etc, but the manual says, for instance, to only use Kubota UDT or SUDT. I know that isn't legally binding but for most of us noobs the extra cost is worth the decrease in potential hassles. But, my manual does not say anything about using a Kubota brand motor oil.

I have an L4400 and it does say to use 10w-40 or 10w-30 in the manual. I could not find either of those weights at my local sources. So I put Rotella 15w-40 in it. Seems to run fine. Most of my tractor use is warm (HOT) weather but winter will be here soon so I'll have to see how it starts on cold mornings.

Presently running the factory 10W-30 oil....but after the 50 hour change Im installing Rotella 5W-40 SYN oil. It FAR exceeds any spec LISTED on the Kubota branded 10W-30 "jugs"...and since my tractor sits outside covered up..it "should" have easier starting in the winter time IF I should need it for the driveway...etc..etc.
