What Model Kubota

Hi
I have in my boat a marinised Kubota 2 clyinder diesal engine, there is no plate on the block and I was wondering if anyone in your fourm could tell me what model it might be

Ahoy & welcome to TBN, wattyboy!
Aside from some external appointments, your engine looks very similar to the Z500-1a in my B5100D tractor, which was made sometime in 1978 - 1984.

Yours looks like it is presently used for hydraulic power?

ThAnks for that, it has 591 and B6 stamped on the cylinder head, think it's been marinised by Bata, and has a S.O.M gearbox. Also it runs a dynamo but I would like to change it to a alternator however very little space due to the manifold does anyone know if there is a conversion ?

I believe that to be a Z600 engine. If you can get your hands on an Alternator from a smaller BX tractor (like a BX23/24/25 all same alternator), WITH the spacers that it needs, it should bolt right on but you'll have to re-wire since the regulator is external with the dynamo setup, and internal with the little Denso BX alternators. That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the dynamo generator. They work pretty good and are dirt simple. Only problem I've ever seen out of them was the bearings-which are cheap and sourced locally for about $10 (in this area) for both of them. The denso alternator is a very good unit but not as simple...and quite a bit more expensive to repair or replace if (when) that time comes.
