Been looking hard at the John Deere 3520, but want to comparison shop.
What is a comparable model to the 3520 JD with a 300cx(heavy duty) loader?
I want theHST transmission. Always been green, thought about NH, but think Kubota might be a good alternative. Is Kubota that much less in price?

Thanks:confused2:

The 3540 would be the comparable model to the 3520.

As far as Kubota vs Deere, or Deere vs Kubota, there's no real 'right' answer. Everyone has their opinion, and location tends to be a factor. Where I live Deere is everywhere. I have 5 Deere dealers closer than the closest Kubota dealer. Also the Deere dealers are willing to work their prices a lot, so there isn't a price difference that some talk about.

I really don't think you can say one is a better value than another, but more you like the features/dealer support of one over another. For me, it's kept me coming back to JD, but, to each his own.

Good luck on your search!

Pretty much what Martian said. The Kubota has the HST+ with a lot of nice features, but I've never used one. About the best advice I can give is to spend as much time on both as you can to see what "fits" you the best.

Some prefer the side by side HST pedals on the JD while other like the pedal on the Kubota, I use both and it's kind of a toss up for me. The John Deere has the split brakes on the right and Kubota on the right.

Both are really good tractors of equal quality at least in my opinion. I usually recommend looking at all brands, but dealer representation or quality of the dealer sometimes makes this impractical.

Good luck, you can't go wrong with either.

I bet that if you test drive a Kubota Grand L with the HST+ transmission, you won't have to consider the Deere afterwards. Not saying anything bad about the JD, it's an excellent machine, but the HST plus six range hydro really does put the Kubota light years ahead.
You might also take a look at the new Standard L4600HST. It is a conventional 3 range hydro, but the LA764 loader they equip that tractor with slightly exceeds the 300CX ...and it is priced very competively

I looked at Deere last December when I was shopping, but don't remember model #s. I ended up with a Kubota L3800DT. Have a good dealer an hour away and got a very good deal on the 3800. I don't think you can go wrong with either, just pick your color.

On paper this is absolutely true. I would like to hear from people that use it or have used both tractors to know if it really makes a big difference. I think it also matters what you use the tractor for as well. HST+ is a very interesting concept. I haven't seen anyone say much about it though.

I wouldn't own a tractor without HST+. If you've never had it then you'll not miss it but now that I've gotten use to it there's no way i would give it up. NH has a less advances version of it on some of their tractors (think it's just a manual fast/ slow speed). Find a Kubota dealer and have them show you how it works or you can go to messick.com and watch a video demo on how it works.

Kubota has a PDF file to directly compare the Kubota 3540 to the Deere 3520 to the New Holland Boomer 35. You may have to look down the list to get to the Kubota 3540 comparisons.

GW, Thanks for the link.

I looked at the Kubota today and liked everything except the toe/heel control for forward and reverse in the hst. It just seemed a little awkward as opposed to the JD right toe/ left toe...

Here is a post I made a couple years back that I copy and paste at times like these:

I got some money from a land sale and wanted to retire my 1950 Ford 8N. I did not care which color, just wanted best value from reptuable brand.

Conditions: 40-ish horsepower, HST trans, R3 tires, front snow blade.

1st looked at new holland 3040. Pros: Buddy has one that I have used a little and liked. Great reputaion. Has connection back to Ford. Cons: Dealer 20 miles away. $26230.

2nd looked at JD 3720. Pros: Have two JD lawn mowers and like. Great reputation. Great parts availability. Dealer 15 miles away (but only 2 miles from work). Cons: Everyone and thier brother has one (I like to be different). 3 cylinder turbo (I did not want 3 cylinder or turbo). Smaller frame. $24700.

3rd looked at Kubota L3940. Pros: Great reputation. HST+ features. Dealer 3 miles away. Cons: There aren't any! $23080 (connectionos with dealer may have led to better price)

Briefly looked at MF but did not seriously consider.

IMO, Kubota was best value for money within the brands I thought as most reptuable and dependable, and closest dealer. Enough cannot be said for a close dealer, no matter what manufacturer you choose.

I have had my L3940 for a year and a half now. Drove buddy's NH a few months back, still a nice tractor, but not as nice as my L3940 with HST+. Went to State Fair last fall and sat on JD3720 to make sure I made right decision. I did make the right decision, JD3720 felt small, has small tires, and stickers on dash were pealing off. Mechanically, I am sure the JD3720 is a good tractor, just was not right for my application (plus everyone and their brother has a green tractor, I like to be different).

Philip

PS, Still have the 8N. NOT FOR SALE!
