We have 2 German Shorthaired Pointers. One just turned 10 and the pup is just 11 months. Talk about ENERGY.

I am surprised I missed that thread! Up to page 10... Interesting!

Same here. It's the most interesting thread I have read on TBN.

John, any chance of an update from your last post in that thread?

We have a 13 yr. old Border Collie and 1 yr. old shepherd mix. My wife says, we will always have a Border Collie so when Echo leaves us we'll be getting another. When I was 20 I got a small mixed breed that ended up being about 10 pounds. I had her untill I was 38, she was 18 when she passed. Her name was ZZ Top and she was about as smart as our Border.

Coyote fans, there is a blog out there, Daily Coyote or somesuch. Great pics. I like my dogs domesticated but like seeing coyotes if they're not stalking me and mine/

We have 3 yellow labs. Amber (11), Crystal (10) and Blondie (4 months).

Once you have had 2 dogs, you will never go back to just one. They really are pack animals, and 2 keep each other company. Got the pup so that if either one of the older ones goes, there will still be companionship. Funny thing is the pup has breathed new life into the older dogs, and their health is improving. Maybe just a little bit of exercise did it.

Every pack needs a puppy. I have 4 dogs, a large Munsterlander (rescue), a chocolate Lab (rescue), a Blue Picarday Spaniel (intentional) and a mini mutt that my wife drug home. Until the mini mutt showed up, the spaniel had to be the puppy and acted the part. As soon as the mini mutt showed up, she moved into an adult dog position in the pack.

I had always heard that multiple dogs would run together and cause problems. Maybe if you neglect them, but I have found my dogs are very responsive and obedient. When I adopted the rescues, they watched the other dogs and took their cues from them. I had to do very little training, though I swear the Lab had been kept in a closet his whole life. He didn't even know how to pack something around in his mouth. I was shocked. I would have bet any amount of money it was impossible to do that to a retriever.

I have I big loveable Blood Hound St Bernard mix I call a Bloody Saint. And one smaller mid size Catahoula Leopard dog. Live them both dearly. But neither one is worth a darn as a watch dog.

Really! Had a Catahoula, Hank, lost him last year. Best watch dog I've ever had. Not affraid to leave him to watch over the kids alone in the yard. Best dog I've ever had.

Good post. Emma is our shepherd mix we rescued. And Haley our German Shepherd. Both fantastic with children.
