I have a John Deere 5500 and the left door as you sit in the tractor has been torn off. I went to JD and they want $2000 for the door and glass, which seems kind of expensive. I have looked all over for one at a salvage yard, but no luck. If I could just find the frame parts I can find the glass everywhere. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also any suggestions on maybe putting a plexiglass panel??

Free parts book on the JD web sites shows all parts that cross.
Dare we ask how the door was damaged ?
The same door was used on the following models.
2332 - 5200, 5300, 5400 and 5500 Tractors - 28Jan16 ( FR ES )
2615 - 5210, 5310, 5410 and 5510 Tractors - 29Mar16 ( FR ES )

Not sure how door was torn off as it was off when I bought it. Never thought it would cost $2000 to replace. It was used by Parks Dept in
St. Louis as a mowing machine and I assume someone just left door open tooooo close to a tree.

I would venture to guess with limited number of models that are similar to your tractor that you're SOL finding a used door. Try Wengers or Abilene Machinery.

Decision time for going to Deere or going without the door. Not good choice, but may be "fact of the matter".

Iirc there are some salvage yards with a cross country search system for parts .
As others have stated . It maybe time to talk to your JD parts counter person.
Is the cab and door mounts sprung or twisted from having the door ripped off ?
