One dinner Mom had ham and asked Dad to say the blessing. He said "Jerome the pig had to give a little something up so we could eat tonight". 

As I understand it both are correct. It is mostly a matter of regional dialect.A bit off topic but I've often wondered when did it change from "He plead not guilty" to "He pleaded not guilty"? Which is correct?
