What is wrong with middle aged people?

Absolutely. Not that there aren't a few bad cops in the world, but the vast majority are very good folks.

That has not been my experience. I find cops to be more dishonest than other people that I know. I have a cop in the family and have been to their gatherings (of mostly cops) and there is no way I would trust the majority of them. I am sure there are many that are honest, but NO WAY are the VAST majority of them honest. Maybe majority, but not VAST majority. The family member is a flat out liar.

There are many officers and many departments around the country, some have better people than others. (people are people and you get good and bad). I probably know personally 12 Sheriffs and 15 Troopers all good people..

I have known bad cops in the past but just because I did doesn't mean I think there are a lot of bad ones.. Having a liar officer within you're own family is a good reason for someone to have very little respect for the rest of the others and be suspect of of them..

I'm sure it's different in different parts of the country as things normally are.. There is no doubt in my mind that there are towns/states in this country that if I lived there I would not feel the same as I do towards LEO's as I do living here..

Generally speaking the people that dislike LEO have done things they shouldn't or they live in an area that has more bad cops than other areas OR they have one in their family that is a flat our liar..

My Uncle died in the line of service when I was very young... my Grandmother never got over it... sometimes she would break down in tears just thinking about it.

Twelve from my High School class became Oakland Police Officers... some I wondered about... the one I wondered the most about retired at 51 with a 180k pension and lifetime medical... said he got bored saying you can only take so many trips or buy so many new pickups he went to work for the county... starting at 130k...

Anyway, I digress...

Driving from Washington to California I decided to take highway 1... many had warned my about speed traps... or aggressive enforcement.

My plan was to use my cruise control even for 25 mph...

Came into one coastal hamlet and saw the 25 mph sign and set cruise at 25 and continued on... around the next bend was radar and as I drove past we made eye contact and he smiled...

The cruise has paid for itself many times over...

Well I've been both, employee and employer.

As and employee I once got fired because I sold too much, they claimed that I messed up production.
Another employer insisted that I buy a typewriter to file my sales reports. When I asked what brand/model to put on my expense account they said whatever as I would be paying for it.
Another wanted reports folded left to right rather than letter format as the secretary wanted it that way.

AS a sales rep I was once berated because I drove with my hands at the bottom of the steering and not at the top as they did in the army.
That 'supervisor' also wanted me to have the steering virtually rubbing my belly. That was after about an hour of him criticizing any and everything I did including how I dressed.
LOL, I blew up and told him where to go and promptly rammed the car up front that suddenly stopped seeing as how he distracted me.

As an employer I let a guy go after one week as I learned he was leaving for a major airline at the end of the month.
Training is a costly time consuming thing generally using up good production revenues from senior staff.
Even thou he had read and signed our benefit manual I was forced to pay him 3 weeks severance.
Manual clearly stated that all employees were temps up to 3 months.
Also my experience was that leaving employees tended to stock up on company consumables B4 quitting.
Bugger sued me for 'unfair dismissal'.

Then I once had an 'electrical engineer' apply for a technician position that wanted to sue me for discrimination, shucks I wanted a fixed and not a designer.
Besides aviation is so highly regulated that you simply use only the approved component and not even a radio shack resister even though they come from the same facility.

Oh but with all those ups and downs I always enjoyed whatever job I did/had.

Your comment about time involved training people is why I don't see the reason for the original post. While the guy could have grown a set and called or stopped in person, rather than send a text; he did notify them so that nobody was waiting for him to show up.

Human resources did actually spend a decent amount of time "setting him up" in the system along with all his company paperwork.

The reality is if this guy looks for a job elsewhere and contacts his previous employer, I'm guessing at least off the record, someone will know about it.

All the guy had to do was call and EXPLAIN why he didn't take the job when both parties thought he was accepting a position instead of text. Shows more class and more professionalism IMO.

I don't think LEO's have any more bad people in their profession than other professions, the biggest issue is LEO's can really screw up your life if they are bad compared to other professions.

That's true.. And if a person gets one bad one and they cause them grief, more than likely they wont care for any of them.

There is no doubt people are getting sick of LEO's screwing up there life intentionally, it happens and I think LEO's get killed because they tried screwing with the wrong people.. You hear about people shooting cops often these days, there has to be a reason that someone does that, they don't just kill and officer because they want to rot in jail.. We never hear the complete honest story EVER..

With technology and video with cell phones, it's becoming more apparent.

What's sad is that there are men who really care about others and that's why they wear the badge but those men are forgotten about because genearlly they don't make the news, it's the bad ones who do.

I tell my boys to respect the law AND be afraid of it. When being questioned, KNOW your rights and say NOTHING.
