My friends all start with driving record... if it is not clear end of story and little invested.

Thank God for a "improper vehicle equipment" plea by a $300 lawyer in NC

My VERY first day of work for one job got caught going 58 in a 55, in a company vehicle. Called my boss later that day and he started laughing and guessed exactly where I got the ticket (area I hadn't been to in a while leaving one of their offices) and he told me not to worry about it as long as I was handling it.

58 in a 55? You don't get stopped here unless you are going at least 10 over.. There are so few LEO's here that you never see one on radar unless you are on the turnpike..

That's one reason why my supervisor at the time knew exactly what road I got pulled over on when I told him they got me for 3 miles over. He got a ticket on the same road as well.

State trooper of all people (I felt like asking him if he was bored with nothing to do). Nortorious to locals that the staties cruise that section of road going in the opposite direction of you and will nail you for less than 5 MPH over the posted limit (genearlly not like that anywhere else in NC from my own experiences). Rural area to boot with long stretch of roadway without any lights or intersections. People from outside the area think its a 60 zone and for whatever reason, they enforce it pretty hard. Hey, if you're even more than one mile over over the speed limit, you're breaking the law. Protect and serve you know!

This is a town just north of us with a 1 mile stretch of road on the main highway. For years if you were going more then 2 over the speed limit, they would pull you over and give you a ticket. And forget about fighting it. Local judge to hear your plea held court a couple evening's a week in a room attached to there little station.

It was about time. I was warned by other employees about the Damascus speed trap soon after I was employed. . I had to drive thru there many many times, and observed their speed trap in action. I never got a ticket, but only because I was aware. I spent a lot of time in your little town of Vilonia too! Mostly at the school, putting in their fiber network.

Sounds familiar, I grew up in a little corrupt town in MA, they did the same there. Town police... We have no town police here, Sheriff's and troopers only, if I see one every two months it would be a lot..

They don't really bother you unless you are driving to endanger. They are all pretty friendly nice people for the most part. It's not uncommon for one to stop in if they see me outside to talk about my tractor or an implement I have mounted to the tractor or look at a new firearm I bought etc. Coffee and whatever baked goods the Mrs's made is the norm..

There are many here that are not fans of LEO's and wont have anything to do with them, I on the other hand like them to know that not everyone is against them and treat them like I would want to be treated..

There were two towns in the area you had to watch out for. Damascus was the first, Guy which is pretty much due east from Damascus is just as bad. To get to Guy, you make a right onto 25 just out of Greenbrier.

Guy toned it down some after Damascus got shut down. They also fired one of there relief officers. That man was a lawsuit waiting to happen. He had gotten fired from Heber Springs police department for being over zealous with his stops. So he volunteered for the Guy PD to get his rocks off. If you were driving a commercial vehicle through the area in the evening, you could pretty much guarantee you were gonna get pulled over for nonsense.

Absolutely. Not that there aren't a few bad cops in the world, but the vast majority are very good folks.

Friend of mine, an ex police dispatcher, called these guys "Wyatt Earps". Seemed they run the gauntlett...some are actually looking for a gunfight. Thank goodness they screen these guys out, or at least try to.

Here's an interesting thought that follows this thread I'd like input on which is the opposite. Having a job and getting laid off or fired which was for the better.
In my case as a teenager I worked at a service station. I've always thought the best job I ever had. Never a dull moment, and everything from fuel oil delivery, wrecker service, of course car repair, car sales, every day new experiences working with great people. I advanced to $1.50/ hour, left in 1970. Great because what if I had continued?
Next was 6 years after college as an electronic technician, laid off but starting my own business. Best thing that happened.
