Oil & Fuel What is this valve for?

This valve is on right side of the tractor from drivers seat. It is in the middle of the engine, the fuel lines go into it. I had it open and I guess a stick hit it while pushing brush. (I don't have side covers) I went out the other day and smelt diesel really strong. It was leaking. I turned it shut and the fuel leak stopped. The tractor runs either way. But what is the valve and what is it for?

The only thing I can imagine is the fuel filter housing, but the tractor should not run long with it in the off position???

The below picture and description from the LK30 manual may assist you, if this is the tractor in question. these fuel valves are often very similar across models as well.

It ended up being the air bleed out bolt. I'm sorry for my ignorance in not RTFM first.

I have an old LK3504 with the same unknown bolt as described by RADIATION . Anyone have a manual pic of what exactly it is used for? NOT on the fuel filter, but above the pump near the injectors..

Is this screw located toward the top of the pump between the fuel line coming to the pump with a small rubber hose coming off the side. If so then that is the air bleed that is supposed to be opened after replacing the fuel filter or to assist primer after running out of fuel. It acts like a fuel bypass to bleed the air from the fuel lines and get it to the injection pump faster to reduce cranking time to start. After bleeding is supposed to be closed.

The small black hose may go up the injectors on the engine head and route back into the top of the fuel tank.

Valver right before injector, daisy chains across all three injectors, and returns to tank. Its been open since I bought this tractor 3 yrs ago. Now, How exactly do you use it? Fuel shutoff has an air position too. Just changed filter and am wondering the correct procedure. No manual to be found. Thanks in advance....
