What is this type clamp called?

It's not in use on the saw. That's just for storage.

Thanks for the info. and yes it is used to secure the extra blades in the storage box. I can find a bunch of them with a 2 inch and 1 inch opening (commonly used on weightlifting equipment) but I need one with a 5/8 inch opening. Any ideas? Thanks again.

If you can't find ones in a ready made size you could always make your own. Springs are not difficult to make, you just need some wire and a mandrel to wind it on, plus a little research into how it's done and a little practice. Hobby shops are one place to find spring steel wire but they probably call it music wire.

Many good hardware stores have a display board with a bunch of springs on it, all numbered. You have to ask for the number spring you want. I have seen some torsion springs that look simmilar. Not sure if there was any that size.

Anyway, search for " torsion spring" and you might find what you are looking for.

^ Its called a BIL clamp. As in, it's what you use on the saw your brother-in-law (BIL) is always borrowing.

If it really worked for use on the saw blades...I was going to use them on the tractor to make a quick tire change system for my R4 to Turf tire change overs!...........JUST Kidding! LMAO.

If its not for holding something to important then you could make some out of old welding rod. just knock off the coating and bent around proper size pipe. I have made clips to hold my open end wrenches this way they work great.

I was kinda curious as to just how much holding capacity these spring clamps actually have.

Here's a few pics of my cross fit bar with two 25 kg (110pounds) bumper plates on one end. The spring is not intended to be used with the bar vertical, but it had no problem with this weight. I was too lazy to load more plates on to see at which point the spring would slip.

lol. Yeah even if it was holding the blade on the saw and the factory did that. I wouldn't use it. NOT safe at all. Yeah I know it's just holding for storage.

Saws will use a bolt and washer to hold the blade in place.
