What is this tool?

It says its made of forged steel.
Has the name Gray on it.
PH70 is on the handle.
Canada on the handle.
Handle extends as if used for leverage.
Jaw opens as if used to pull with but only about a half inch.
Jaws are about a quarter inch wide.

Heavy Duty Nail Pullers
An old standby - and still great today
This serious tool is a huge time and worksaver, and one you simply don't see around much anymore. When you need it, though, it's absolutely fantastic. It's basically a slide hammer with movable jaws. Position the jaws around the nail head and move the heavy sliding handle down briskly. The jaws dig around the nail head, and you can lever back on the 16" long handle to remove long nails quickly. It's for rough, quick work, so some crushing of the wood around the nail head is inevitable.

I use one at work in the ol' window factory. They work really great for pulling framing staples out of window frames. They're still being made today by at least a couple different tool manufacturers. It doesn't take long to learn where not to hold them!

Ace hardware still sells this nail puller unchanged from 50 years ago.
I was a teenager when Dad was building a house and I had to take the nails out of the cement form to reuse the material for the building joists. 2X12X16 He bought this tool and I still use it.

I had never seen one like this before. A friend of mine gave it to me. He didn't know what it was either. Hammer and claw foot crowbar always worked for me before. I knew it was some kind of puller but can't see how it can grab a nail head that is sunk into a wood deck board. If the head was sticking up a little it would be no problem.

This is what I use now for demolition.

Place the solid jaw on the edge of a nailhead, on the wood right on the edge of the nail.

Lift the sliding handle, slam it down a time or 2. Keep the jaw on the edge of the nail head.

The sliding hammer will put the jaw intot he wood a tad, and slipped under the nail head.

Close the jaws and pull the nail out using the little tab as the fulcrum.

This leaves a small dent in your wood. Much less damage than any other tool.

Keep your hand away from the sliding part of the handle, you _will_ get blood blisters or worse when using or carrying the tool and the handle slide closed. Happens to everyone until we learn....

Funniest **** thing...I was just at my neighbours place 5 minutes ago...what does he have that he cannot figure out what it is for? Well, it looks exactly like that...blue GRAY PH-70 stamped in the thing, and GRAY CANADA. A nail puller, or special tool for pulling something. Its identical...small world.I'm searching so if I find out, I'll brief you. LOL
