I've got a couple of boggy areas with this grass. It's common here in wet boggy type areas. But it occurs to me.... I don't know what it even is. And what's the best way to control this. Mowing couldn't be done unless we had a severe drought, and even then.... Well there's springs many places around here and a wet boggy area is the results.

Not positive I can help ID the grass, but I can say a close up of it without the brightness of the sky in the frame affecting the image would help in being able to ID it. Walk forward at least to the edge of the most recently cut grass and retake the picture.

Beautiful area you're in.

For sure, get close, real close. This does not appear to be a grass. Looks more like a vine type vegetation - fescue, morning glory or night shade type plant. Grass ID is tough - so many, many types and so many look alike. Need a good pic of the blade, blade arrangement on the stem and the flower, if any. That is a pretty area, so green. Looks like an area where you could sink pretty deep with your Kubota. The only green thing on my 80 acres this time of year is the paint on one of my outbuildings.

Really need a better picture. Pull up a plant and lay it on a contrasting table. Now take close pictures of left and stem areas. Is the stem hairy does it has ligules? How does the leaf attach to stem is there a whorl? Grass it hard to id. What kind of root system? We have some places here that look like the same grass but it's always on reclaim ground. So I just figured it was something them mines hauled in.

Swedge maybe. Here's a closer look. Doubt i can completely eliminate it but would like to contain it more.

Looks like a phragmites (fragmites ??) species. Many varieties out there. Only likes wet areas. The seed head will help in identifying it. Take a few stalks to Extension, a park naturalist, etc. for a good ID. Not a big problem around here, but some areas it is considered somewhat of a nuisance weed.

That second pic is a help. Boy, was I off base. I've never seen anything like that around here. Fossil Farm has a good answer. They can also suggest ways to control this.
